I. DESKRIPSI MATA KULIAH
Sociolinguistics is part of linguistic courses which are introduced to develop the linguistic awareness of the students, to give knowledge on language functions and how they influence the speakers, to develop the students’ understanding on language varieties in their own society as well as others’, and to develop the students’ abilities in interpreting other people’s speech. This course deals with the following topics: the role of
sociolinguistics in language teaching, language and social class, language and ethnic group, language and sex, language and context, language and social interaction, language and nation, and language and geography.
II. STANDARISASI KOMPETENSI MATA KULIAH
Upon the completion of this course, the students are expected to 1) have larger insights into the language and society, which can be applied in the process of English language teaching and learning, 2) get the knowledge on language functions and varieties, 3) interpret other people’s speech
