July 1998. The CFVI was an area based programme initiated by UNICEF. The programme was covering some 289 villages distributed in 8 States of the Sudan. The report was an assessment for the village organizations, the revolving services, the women activities and the Harmful Traditional Practices (HTPs) including Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), and monitoring and evaluation.

The project was covering 5 Sates of the 18 North Sudan States with a total cost of US$ 95 million to provide basic services to the poor communities. The project was rated in June 2011 as one of the top 12 projects World Bank Supported projects in Africa

with outstanding performance. The project started in 2006 and was closed on 31st

October 2013 but now on preparatory period to use productive safety net under the social protection umbrella.

Responsibilities include producing regular quarterly progress reports, conducting and collecting baseline data, follow up and impact evaluations, applying innovative tools for improving the project management and the M&E system (Rapid Results Initiatives, Community Score Cards, etc), availing data and information for the Donors and others, and help the executive manager in the general project management and in streamlining the implementation of the project activities.

for the Raymah Area Development Project in the

Republic of Yemen. The project (1999-2005) was funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). My major roles were to help the project in

improving the planning and management aspects, help in executing an effective Monitoring and Evaluation and Management Information systems, assist in contract management and the executing of the various project activities, advice and guide the preparation of the annual work plans and budgets, progress reports and briefing notes, training of counterparts, preparing TORS for the long and short term consultants (included TOR for the Mid Term Review), supervising and managing all consultants hired by the project. During the period, I was the hub and the internal coordinator for the implementation of the Mid Term Review for this and the other two IFAD-funded projects in Yemen (September-October 2003).

General Manager, White Nile Agricultural Services

Project

. The project was designed to rehabilitate some of the existing irrigated schemes at the White Nile State of the Sudan, and was jointly funded by the Government of Sudan (GOS) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and cooperated by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) from its Nairobi Outpost (and from Rome as from 1999). The project duration was seven years (starting 1994). My major responsibilities included:- Overall management of the project, consolidating the annual work programmes and budgets and project reports; bulk procurement; liaison with the GOS and IFAD and act as the contact person for IFAD; Coordinating and handling technical assistance; Financial management and disbursement; Drawing up and Executing of Contracts; Overall Monitoring and Evaluation of the project (Physical Monitoring of project inputs and outputs, Financial monitoring - expenditures and disbursements, Developmental monitoring of farmer's groups, Participatory monitoring and evaluation of agricultural production and delivery of contracted services and inputs, and monitoring and evaluating of the incremental effects and impact of the project); and managing all project activities.

General Coordinator and Manager of Khartoum Office

for the

Western Savannah Development Corporation (WSDC). The corporation was covering almost 135,000 square kilometers of the Southern part of Darfur state. It was funded by ODA, SDF, IDA and IFAD at the first stages; and by IDA and IFAD at its final stages. It comprised of about 1,000 employees distributed between four major departments; Engineering, Agriculture, Planning Monitoring and Evaluation, Administration and Finance. Khartoum office is a liaison office coordinating all needs of the corporation concerning local and foreign purchases, staff training, contracts negotiation and signing, disbursements, and all other matters related to the corporation in Khartoum. I was also representing the Director General and directors of departments at meetings and other occasions in Khartoum. In view of the previous experience, I was also helping the Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Department. As the job title shows, I am also in charge of managing the Khartoum office (about 30 persons) and the small clearance office (10 persons) in Port Sudan.

October 1992 - December 1992

Head, Monitoring and Evaluation Department - Jebel Marra Rural Development Project. This was a temporary assignment to assist the M&E department in analysing and writing reports on previously collected data, and reviewing its work programmes; and helping the project staff in using and managing various computer software.

June 1989 - October 1992

Socio-economist for the UNDP/UNDTCD project "Assistant to

the Technical Secretariat of the High Water Council

(TS-HWC) for the Preparation of a Water Master Plan" in the Republic of Yemen. The project started in 1988 and was terminated in 1992. The main objectives of the project were to complete detailed national data base in meteorology, hydrology, hydrogeology, socio-economics, water socio-economics, and legislation; develop the professional capabilities of the Technical Secretariat's national staff; and assist in the preparation of a Master Plan for Water Resources Development and Management. The main tasks and responsibilities that I had performed during my assignment were:

1- The analysis and tentative interpretation of the present and potential socio-economic and regional structure of the country,

2- Outlining the most significant development aspects at regional level and providing background information concerning water resources planning and development priorities,

3- Benefit cost analysis and cost recovery as tools for cooperative review of projects and development priorities in the light of socio-economic aspects and national targets, 4- Identifying development trends of population numbers and the resulted growing water

demand,

5- Defining the socio-economic regional development factors prevailing in YAR such as: Agriculture and industrial production, technical infrastructures, social infrastructures and administrative systems and services,

6- Providing the socio-economic inputs required in the elaboration of the Water Master Plan,

8- Assist in carrying out financial and economic analysis for some water Projects, estimating water supply and requirement for the country, and other related studies as water policy model and evaluating alternative irrigation water pricing strategies.

July 1986 - June 1989

Manager, Monitoring and Evaluation Department – Jebel

Marra Rural Development Project

. In addition to the below mentioned responsibilities for the Deputy Head, I was also in charge of:

a: designing and carrying out surveys:

- for the rainfed and irrigated farming systems, - to monitor and follow up the project activities - to assess the project immediate effects and impact - to monitor the general trends in the project area

- to collect data and provide information for other departments of the project when specifically requested by them

b: Writing and preparing annual reports on the above surveys results,

c: Preparing and providing any information specifically requested by the donor and review missions,

d: Editing and producing the project’s annual reports, work programmes and cost estimates,

e: Occasionally acting the responsibilities of the Director General on his absence from the project.

July 1980- June 1986

Deputy Manager, Monitoring and Evaluation Department - Jebel Marra Rural Development Project. The project was financed by the European Development Fund (EDF) of the European Economic Community (EEC) and executed by Hunting Technical Services (HTS) of UK. The first phase of the project started in mid 1980 and ended in 1986, and the second phase started in 1986 and was completed in 1993. The project area is at the western part of Sudan and its activities had covered an area of 35,000 sq Km. The project had about 600 employees and comprised of seven departments: Extension, Adaptive Research, Finance and Administration, Engineering, Community Development, Credit and Marketing and Monitoring and Evaluation Departments.

The Monitoring and Evaluation Department was established in mid 1980. I worked with three Monitoring and Evaluation experts from Hunting Technical Services who were the heads of the department (all British). My main responsibilities were to assist in carrying out different farm and socio-economic surveys, supervising and administering the staff of the department (two graduate supervisors, 18 enumerators, 2 computer operators and 5 drivers), analyzing data and writing reports and occasional bulletins.

Head of the Agricultural Economics Section for the Jebel Marra Development Project of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Western Sudan). The Project was one of the oldest development projects in the country as the investigations and studies activities on the general potentialities of the area started in early 1958 and continued to 1974 by the UNDP, Tesco Visiterv and the Hunting Technical Services of England. From 1974 to 1980, the project dealt mainly with Horticultural Development in the area and concentrating its activities at 6 main irrigated centers. My main Tasks were to follow up, collect data and report on the agricultural practices and costs of production for the main crops in the irrigated centers, and analyze market price data collected by the division's enumerators (4) for the various crops and livestock types. During this period, I had also participated in the appraisal and preparatory studies

resulted in the new EEC funded Jebel Marra Rural Development Project (JMRDP).

July 1977- May 1978

Assistant Inspector of Agricultural Economics at the Agricultural Economics and Statistics Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Khartoum - Sudan). Main responsibilities were supervising field surveys and assisting in data analysis.
