The research is investigating a managed application of guided inquiry learning model to
increase the students’ comprehension. The aim of this research is to know the conceptual
comprehension of science in the 5th grade of primary school through the managed
application of guided inquiry learning model. The background of the study is created
because of the students’ low comprehension in science, especially in soil material,
because the learning process is still teacher centred and the teacher is still applying the conventional model. The teacher tends to give a C1 cognitive level in the evaluation, although the competency is on C2 level. The students who take the C2 level are showing the deficient result. It happens because the students are not well-trained and their comprehension is low. The research method that applied in the research is Classroom Action Research and also a design from Kemmis and McTaggart in two cycles. The research participant is VA class which consists of 26 students in a primary school at Sukasari, Bandung. The learning activity, through a managed application of guided inquiry learning model, is guided in method and research questions, hypothesis, data
collection, findings and discussion, and conclusion. The research shows that the students’
conceptual comprehension, from the 1st cycle to the 2nd cycle, is increased after applying
the model. In the 1stcycle, the average percentage of students’ comprehension is 76% and
in the 2nd cycle is 86%. This research is recommended for teachers, headmasters, and the
