Students’ Acquisition of Negative Constructions in the Present Tense

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the students’ writing problems of negative constructions in the Present Tense. This study was conducted in a rural school, SMP Negeri 2 Tuntang. The research participants were thirty four students in that school. The data were collected using a test. The students changed ten positive statements into negative statements in the Present Tense. This study found three common writing problems of negative constructions in the Present Tense. They were morphological error, syntactic error, and mechanical error.
