ABSTRAK
Sifat biologi tanah dan kapasitas menyimpan air tanah merupakan salah salah satu aspek penting dalam menentukan kesehatan tanah. Pemberian vermikompos dan biochar jerami padi dapat mempengaruhi sifat biologi tanah dan kapasitas menyimpan air tanah Ultisol. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian biochar dan kompos jerami padi terhadap sifat biologi tanah dan kapasitas menyimpan air pada tanah Ultisol. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di laboratorium. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok dengan satu faktor yaitu Tanah tanpa perlakuan, Vermikompos dosis 10 ton/ha, Vermikompos dosis 20 ton/ha, Biochar jerami padi dosis 10 ton/ha, Biochar jerami padi dosis 20 ton/ha, Vermikompos + Biochar jerami padi (5 ton/ha : 5 ton/ha), Vermikompos + Biochar jerami padi (10 ton/ha : 10 ton/ha). Pemberian perlakuan berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan pH tanah, total respirasi tanah, C-organik tanah, namun
tidak berpengaruh terhadap kadar air tanah, total mikroorganisme tanah, dan N-total tanah, Biochar jerami padi berpengaruh terhadap jumlah air tertahan
dalam tanah. Debit air bergerak mencapai beker penampung berpengaruh hanya pada pemberian air irigasi dua minggu inkubasi.

ABSTRACT
Soil biology and soil water holding capacity is an important aspect in determining the health of the soil. Giving vermicompost and paddy straw biochar can affect the biological properties of the soil and ultisol soil water holding capacity. This study aimed to determine the effect of vermicompost and paddy straw biochar on biological properties of the soil and the ultisol water holding capacity. The research was conducted in the laboratory. This research used randomized block design with one factor, that was soil without treatment, Vermicompost dose of 10 ton / ha, Vermicompost dose of 20 ton / ha, Paddy Straw Biochar dose of 10 ton / ha, Paddy Straw Biochar dose of 20 ton / ha, Vermicompost + Paddy Straw Biochar (5 tons / ha: 5 tons / ha), Vermicompost + Paddy Straw Biochar (10 tons / ha: 10 tons / ha). Treatment giving affected on increasing soil pH, total soil respiration, soil organic Carbon, but did not affect the soil moisture content, total soil microorganisms, and soil N-total. Paddy straw biochar effected on the amount of water retained in the soil. Rate of water flowed moving to glassbeaker affected only atwater irrigation in two week soil incubation.
