During 2001-2005 production tended to increase with the annual average growth of 8.5%.5%.Potato growth level during 2001-2005 were 7.0%, 11.5%, 7.8% and 7.8% respectively.During 2002-2003 potato production enjoyed a high growth level, as much as 11.5% with production volume of 1.01 million ton. On of the causing factors is increase in harvest area. However, it doesn't always contribute to the whole production activity since in 2004 production weakened as much as 7.8% and then stayed still until the next year with production volume of 1.1 million ton. With average production asmuch as 1.0 million ton per year or 0.3% of the total world production, it can be said that potato is not Indonesia's supreme product. Domestic consumption during 2001-2005 weakened. However, generally domestic consumption tended to increase with yearly average of 756.5 thousand ton. One thing to note is that although potato is not Indonesian main staple, households and non-households consumption are almost equal. This may be closely related to food diversification program enforced b the government.
