Chairman Kierschner then directed that he receive nominations for vice-chairman of the Convention, whereupon Turner Walter T. Phillips, of the Pittsburgh District, and George Jacquin, of the Western New York District, were nominated. Turner Weideman recommended that the work of this committee be given serious consideration by the Convention.
A motion was made and seconded to receive this report and refer it to the National Affairs Committee of the Convention. Eklund, who had assumed the position of administrative executive secretary of the American Turners from August 1, 1950. It was requested and seconded that this report should be received and referred to the Financial Committee of the Convention.
Stocker, Chairman of this Committee, in printed form in the report for 1949 of the National Executive Committee. The Annual Report of the National Cultural Education Committee was presented in printed form in· the 1949 Report of the National Executive Committee, by Dr. The participation in the Annual Competition of Societies of the American Turners is constantly growing.
The chairman drew attention to the report of the Bowling Committee that appears in the printed annual report.
SECOND SESSION
Appointment of a committee to extend the greetings of this Convention to the 16th National Convention of the Woman's Auxiliary of the American Turners. Report of the Committee on Revision of Principles and Statutes appointed under mandate of the Lawrence Convention. The Chairman recommended that the business of the Convention be taken up in the order in which he had enumerated the items of business.
After several announcements had been made by the members of the host society's Committee, the Convention adjourned at 12:30. REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON THE REVISION OF PRINCIPLES AND STATUTES. He completed this reading with a brief explanation of the relationship between these proposed Principles and the current Principles. Chairman Kierschner then stated that this motion to adopt the revised Principles was open for discussion.
Turner Hermann further discussed the desirability and advocated the inclusion of a portion of the current principles in the proposed revised principles. Kumpf, of the Western New York District, urged the immediate adoption of these proposed principles as presented by the committee. Turner Jack Nickels of Lake Erie County opposed any delay in immediate action on these proposed principles.
Chairman Kierschner then ordered that the Committee on Revision continue to submit its recommendations regarding proposed revisions to the American Turners Articles of Association. Turner Meisner drew the delegates' attention to the fact that the proposed revision of the statutes was included in the photolithographic report entitled "Proposed Revised Principles and Statutes of the American Turners."
THIRD SESSION
Of these regional representatives of cultural education, the National Council will appoint half for a term of four (4) years and the other half for a term of two (2) years; thereafter all representatives are appointed for a term of four. At that point, Chairman Kierschner announced that dinner time was approaching and he proposed, if there were no objections, that the submission of the Statute Committee's report be paused at this point. Turner Meisner has made a motion to merge, if and when the Convention Committees have their sessions, the Committee on National Affairs and the Committee on Principles, Statutes and Grievances, due to the fact that apparently little or no work has been submitted for consideration. latter committee.
At this point the proceedings were interrupted by Vice-President Meisner to receive a committee of women from the Sixteenth National Congress of the Women's Auxiliary of the American Turners. Fred Olt of this committee sent greetings and best wishes for a successful convention and urged the delegates to encourage the women's auxiliaries of their associations to join the National Women's Auxiliary if they are not now hers. Addressing the convention on behalf of the Buffalo National Festival, Stocker called on all communities to participate in the festival and specifically asked the delegates to ask the ladies of their communities to participate in the national cultural pageant.
At this point, Turner Carl Hein of Lake Erie County stated that he and others felt that the delegates had had sufficient time to read and consider the proposed changes to the statutes, and expressed complete confidence in the ability, conscientiousness, and sincerity of purpose of the committee which in his opinion, justified the adoption of the proposed changes to the statute without a detailed consideration of all the proposed changes. Vice-President Meisner indicated that he would admit such a proposal, provided it contained a provision that each delegate had the right to bring up for discussion any article in respect of which he had any questions or to which he had any objections. Vice-President Meisner stated that the tabling of this motion placed the proposed statute in a position of provisional adoption, pending a formal federal vote, which would have to take place after the Convention had adopted the recommendations of the Convention's Committee on Physical Education on Articles which had been forwarded to that Committee .
Chairman Kierschner asked the Secretary to read a telegram received by the Convention from Julius Laffert, Regional Representative of the New England District, expressing his regret at his inability to attend the Convention and expressing best wishes for a successful Congress. Eklund requested permission to submit a jury report on the Eurovision Song Contest, which he had just received and the important contents of which are as follows:

It is further recommended that accurate records be kept in the USA Turner National Office files of the recipients of the honorary awards. After some discussion centered around the committee's failure to establish more specific qualifications for awarding an Honorary Key, Phillips' motion was unanimously approved by a voice vote of the convention. At this point, the Chairman announced that the next order of business would be the nominations for the office of Trustee of the American Endowment Trust, to fill the vacancy caused by the expiration of the term of Frederick H.
Meyer and Turner Andrew Lascari of the Western District of New York placed in nomination the name of Henry W. Motions were then made, seconded and seconded that the secretaries of the convention be requested to see to the printing of ballots containing these two names, preferably rotated. and that these ballots be distributed to the delegations present from each district at the next session of its assembly. Turner Sputh kindly presented to the President and Secretary of the Convention, with his compliments, two steins which he had brought to exhibit. At this point, Chairman Kierschner stated that the next order of business for the convention would consist of meetings of the Convention Committees, to allow them to consider the various resolutions presented to them by the districts and delegates. The Secretary reminded delegates that mimeographed copies of the Report listing the delegates assigned to each of the Convention Committees had been prepared and distributed by the Credentials Committee at the First Session of the Convention.
The President reminded the Convention that the delegates assigned to the Convention Committee on Principles, Statutes and Grievances are instructed to meet the Committee on National Affairs, in accordance with a motion adopted at the second session of the Convention. The committees were then assigned to their chambers and the Chairman declared that this session of the Convention was adjourned at 12.15 p.m.
REPORT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION COMMITTEE ON REVISION OF STATUTES
He ordered that the next parliamentary step would be the adoption of the revised articles of association as a whole as amended. It was moved and informed that the finance committee's recommendations are dealt with separately. Final action on the report as a whole was held pending the recommendation of the Convention Committee on Physical Education.
The Chair then called for the Report of the Convention Committee on Cultural Education which was delivered by John Kovats as follows:. The Chairman then announced that the first officer to be elected would be the President of American Turners, and that only the name of Turner Carl M. The Chairman then declared that nominations for additional candidates for President of American Turners were in order, whereby case Dr.
The Chairman accordingly declared that Alfred F. Kierschner had been elected First Vice-President of the American Turners for the coming two-year term. The Chairman then declared Carl R. Vice President of the American Turners for the coming two year term. The Chairman then stated that the Committee was ready to elect a Chairman of the National Health and Physical Education Committee and reminded the Convention that John M. Hein and George Cheston had been nominated by the Nominating Committee.
Stocker duly elected as Chairman of the National Health and Physical Education Committee for the coming two-year term. The Chairman then instructed that the Convention was ready for the election of the Chairman of the National Cultural Education Committee and reminded the Convention that the name of John Kovats had been nominated by the Nominating Committee. Kumpf of the Western New York District to address the convention on a very important matter.
Meyer heartily thanked the convention for the confidence shown in his re-election to the office of trustee of the American Turners Endowment Fund.
