Discussion

Students' total scoring errors in the writing task based on the surface strategy taxonomy. This omission and malformation error occurs because students do not really know the function of punctuation marks, do not master the material well, students only focus on the written text, so students tend to ignore punctuation marks when writing. This may be due to students' lack of understanding of the function of punctuation marks and poor knowledge of the function of punctuation marks.

This happens because students do not yet have an understanding of how to put the correct punctuation order in their writing. Furthermore, misordering errors or errors in ordering items can be minimized by the teacher having students understand and use punctuation correctly in written English, students seeking information and not hesitating to ask the teacher which order of punctuation to write first the students themselves need to be more careful and reread the results of the writing to reduce punctuation errors. There were seven types of punctuation errors still found on the tenth grader's writing assignment.

The type of punctuation errors that occurred repeatedly are period, capital letter, comma, apostrophe, quotation mark, exclamation mark and question mark with a total error of 478. To minimize these punctuation errors the students should study hard and understand more about mechanics, especially how to punctuate. to use. Students will pay more attention to the use of punctuation in their writing activities if they understand the functions and types of punctuation.
