From that moment on, God has given me the opportunity to grow in the pursuit of theological studies, but more importantly, to grow in love for him and his church. Stephanie, you have been the strongest source of encouragement to me, and I am grateful for every heartfelt reassuring word. You helped me see the "big picture" and not despair over imperfect concepts and looming deadlines.

I would also like to express my appreciation to my two beautiful children, Luke and Emma Jane. God has richly blessed me with the gift of these two "arrows". Your endless supply of smiles, hugs and laughter filled the heart of your earthly father with joy. I was grateful for his passionate teaching style and academic skill; however, I was most affected by Dr.

You have shown by example what it means to love and care for the people whom God has entrusted to our care.

INTRODUCTION

Parents who are equipped with a robust biblical worldview are better prepared to train their children in the fear of the Lord. May God be richly glorified as more young families faithfully train their children in the teaching and fear of the Lord. Unfortunately, many Christ-professing parents have abdicated their role in teaching their children in the fear of the Lord.

This fear of the Lord is contagious in the sense that it is passed on to others. Repeating the law by the father prevents a child from forgetting “the works of God” (Ps 78:7). The church community equips fathers to lead their households spiritually to raise their children in the fear of the Lord.

In a positive sense, Paul encourages fathers to “bring them up [children] in the discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4b). Catechesis: A Proven Process for Training Children and New Converts in the Fear of the Lord. Like Calvin, Luther also defended the role of the Christian family in the practice of catechesis.

The central purpose was to be true to God's precept that parents should make disciples of their children in the fear and admonition of the Lord. Unfortunately, those same families also did not participate in the online format of the project.

The purpose of this project was to equip the young parents of FBCM to make disciples of their children through the catechesis method. But before simply exhorting parents to engage their children's spiritual lives, parents needed to grow in their doctrinal understanding. The project included a pre- and post-series survey that measured statistical change in parents' perceptions of discipleship and their theology.
