Dear professor Fuad Abdul Hamied,
I would like to submit my research paper entitled ‘Digital storytelling as a way of empowering Muslim women: Unheard voices as “counter narratives”’ to be considered by the Indonesian Journal of Applied Linguistics.
In this paper, I show how digital storytelling is used by Muslim women to counter stereotypes that are prevailing all over the world. This is significant because it shows that digital stories paved the way for Muslim women to have a voice and narrate their own stories digitally so that they can be heard across geographical boundaries.
I believe that this manuscript is appropriate for publication by Indonesian Journal of Applied Linguistics as it is relevant to the field of discourse analysis which is one of the journal’s topics. One of the merits of the present study is that it falls under interdisciplinary studies” that merge the study of language along with multimodality.
The present paper is significant as it is crucial to weed out bullying and stereotyping with all their different registrations: Muslim women, refugees, or black people, hence, the need for the present study. Most of the studies conducted on Digital Storytelling focus on the pedagogical aspect and the use of such stories to enhance students’ skills in learning the language, but none of them deals with the application of the “Narrative Theory” or apply a multimodal discourse analysis of such stories to investigate the powerful effect they have in changing stereotypes.
Please address all correspondence concerning this manuscript to me at

I am looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your consideration of this manuscript.
Sincerely,
Mai Mowafy, PhD.
