Keywords: Voice of America, dictogloss, learning media, listening skill

Listening is language modality for daily communication and one of the processes to receive an information and message conversation. In listening process, many students have difficulty mastering listening skills because their vocabulary is limited, students do not pay attention during the learning process and the facilities not really supported in teaching learning process thus the students rarely practice in listening skill. To overcome this problem, this study aimed to find out effectiveness of Voice of America (VOA) Islam through dictogloss technique to improve students’ listening skill at the Markazullughoh Englishiyyah of Islamic Boarding School Darul Falah Amtsilati Bangsri.

This research applied true-experimental design. Involving 22 students of Markazullughoh Englishiyyah A as experimental class and 22 students Markazullughoh Englishiyyah C as control class. The sampling technique used by the researcher was random sampling used lottery. The procedure of collecting data as follows: The first, the researcher gave pre-test. The second, the researcher gave treatment during two meetings with using VOA Islam through dictogloss technique. After giving treatment, post-test was given to the students.

Furthermore, data analysis used SPSS statistical calculations.

The results showed that the mean score of post-test for the experimental class was higher than the control class (85.09 > 74). This indicated that there was a significant difference in the post-test results. Then, the results of the hypothesis analysis showed that tobserve was higher than ttable, namely (8.025 > 2,000). In addition, the 2 tailed sig value was lower than alpha (0.00 < 0.05). This means that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. From these results, there were significant differences in the use of VOA Islam through dictogloss technique for students' listening skills.

ABSTRAK

Menyimak adalah modalitas bahasa untuk komunikasi sehari-hari dan salah satu proses untuk menerima informasi dan pesan percakapan. Dalam proses menyimak, Banyak siswa yang kesulitan dalam menguasai keterampilan menyimak karena kosa katanya terbatas, siswa tidak memperhatikan selama proses pembelajaran dan fasilitas yang kurang mendukung dalam proses belajar mengajar sehingga siswa jarang berlatih keterampilan menyimak. Untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektifitas Voice of America (VOA) Islam melalui teknik dictogloss untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mendengar siswa? di kelas Markazullughoh Englishiyyah di Pesantren Darul Falah Amtsilati Bangsri.

Penelitian ini menggunakan desain true-experimental. Melibatkan 22 siswa Markazullughoh Englishiyyah A sebagai kelas eksperimen dan 22 siswa Markazullughoh Englishiyyah C sebagai kelas kontrol. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan peneliti adalah random sampling dengan menggunakan undian. Prosedur pengumpulan data sebagai berikut: Pertama, peneliti memberikan pre-test. Kedua, peneliti memberikan treatment selama dua kali pertemuan dengan menggunakan VOA Islam melalui Teknik Dictogloss. Setelah diberikan treathment lalu post-test diberikan kepada siswa. Selanjutnya analisis data menggunakan perhitungan statistik SPSS.

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata nilai post-test kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi daripada kelas kontrol (85,09 > 74). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada hasil post test. Kemudian, hasil analisis hipotesis menunjukkan bahwa thitung lebih tinggi dari ttabel yaitu (8.025 >

2,000). Selain itu, 2 tailed sig lebih rendah dari alpha (0,00 <0,05). Artinya H0 ditolak dan Ha diterima. Dari hasil tersebut, terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan penggunaan podcast terhadap keterampilan menyimak siswa.
