IMPROVING THE ABILITY OF STUDENTS IN WRITING PROCEDURE TEXT THROUGH THE USE OF CARD SORTING TECHNIQUE IN THE TENTH GRADE AT SMK MUHAMMADIYAH. The subjects of this study were 38 tenth grade students in SMK Muhammadiyah Sekampung East Lampung. The study found that the card sorting technique could improve the writing skills of the tenth grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah Sekampung East Lampung.

Card sorting is a user-centered design technique where users are given label cards and asked to sort them into groups.18 This means that this method is commonly used to determine a natural navigation structure for a group of users. The card sorting technique is an advanced level sorting task that can be used to identify how concepts in a content are organized in a learner's knowledge. Furthermore, the card sorting technique was developed as a technique to identify how a learner of a group of learners organizes information in memory.21 In other words, card sorting technique can be the effective way to convey what the learners need to be organized.

Furthermore, card sort techniques are also used in professional counseling to identify teacher interests in different professions.22 This means that card sort can be used in any content area to include the use of card types. to investigate knowledge structures related to mathematical functions and graphing. , and to identify organizing concepts for consumer research. The application of teaching writing using card sorting in the classroom is explained as follows:24.

In this case, the author conducted classroom action research in the Network Computer Technique class in the tenth grade of SMK Muhammadiyah Sekampung. The writer prepared the lesson plan including teaching procedure, media and relevant material to be used in the acting phase. The author prepared learning resource for the students. The writer decided which technique should be used in the acting phase.

In the second phase, the author worked together to implement the action that was organized in the planning phase. In the third phase, the author observed the students' activity, their participation, classification during learning process and author performance by using structure observation form and recording the overall activities. Furthermore, the author also collected the data from the post-test and results of the student's activity.

In the fourth stage, the writer tried to see and think again about something the writer had done. By reflecting, the writer can gain information about the strength and weakness of the action the writer has taken. In the first phase, when the writer finds the problem in the first cycle, the writer will fix the problem in the next cycle.

The writer has revised and prepared the lesson plan based on the problem that appeared in the previous cycle, including learning procedure, media and relevant material to be applied in the acting stage. In the third stage, the writer observed the student's activity, their participation, the situation in the classroom during the learning process, and the writer's performance by using the structure observation form, and recorded the overall activities. In addition, the writer also collects the data of the post-test and the result of the student's activity.

Data Collecting Technique

In the fourth stage, the writer discusses and analyzes the data collected from all the activities from the acting stage to the observation stage to find out whether the implementation of card sorting was successful or unsuccessful in the second cycle and also compare the results of the student . improvement from cycle one to cycle to find out the student's performance. If there is a good improvement based on the success criteria previously determined, the writer has not continued the action in the next cycle. In this case, the writer takes the test to know the tenth grade writing skills of SMK Muhammadiyah Sekampung.

Both tests take the form of asking the students to write procedural text guided by clear pictures related to the topics of procedural text. The reason why the writer chose the subjects is because the tenth grade major of SMK Muhammadiyah Sekampung who chooses writer as an example is Network Computer Technique. In this study, the writer will observe the learning process of the tenth graders of SMK Muhammadiyah.

In this case, the writer needs documentation to get complete information about the history of the establishment of SMK Muhammadiyah Sekampung, the organizational structure of SMK Muhammadiyah Sekampung, the names of the teachers in each subject, the sketch information of the school building in order to know the location of each class, office, library, canteen, mosque , laboratory, parking lots and courtyards. A field note is an observation instrument used in CAR to record what happened during the observation, which includes descriptions of places, people, objects, actions, activities, events, intentions, times and feelings.33 In this research, the writer used a field note to record the activities student during the learning process. In this research, the writer conducted a field note to obtain complete data from the tenth grade of SMK Muhammadiyah Sekampung about students' activities, events in individual learning steps, learning objectives, class time, and students' feelings during learning. process.

To measure the writing skills of tenth grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah Sekampung, the writer applied some writing tests consisting of pre-test and post-test. Both tests take the form of asking the students to write procedural text based on the images associated with the procedural text topics. To observe the learning activity and each cycle, the writer will use an observation sheet.

Data Analysis

Responses to certain students, optimally productive pairs and groups in class are more pronounced, etc. Tabulate the result of the test and find the mean of the pre-test and post-test.

The author expects that the result of this research will be a positive contribution for the students to improve their writing skills, in particular to create writing procedure texts. To make it easier for the students to understand the learning material, so that the writing of procedural texts by students could be improved. As the learning model in teaching English, especially to improve the student's writing ability and motivate the students more to be more active in the learning process.

The English teacher can create a fun and easy way to learn English by using this technique to make the students feel happy in the learning process. The result of this research as a positive contribution to the principal to improve the quality of the teacher in the school and to English teaching especially to do research on writing.
