Objective And Benefit of The Study

This study aims to find out whether there is a positive and significant influence of the use of edmodoon by students writing descriptive texts in the tenth grade of Senior High School of Muhammadiyah 1 Metro.

REVIEW OF THE RELATED THEORIES

Concept of Writing…

The Concept of Descriptive Text

Descriptive text is a text in which a writer tries to portray an object to his reader. Based on the explanation above, the descriptive text is to share with the readers about description of person, place or thing. It is clear that a descriptive text is more often about describing an object and making a good descriptive text has two important parts.

Because the text above tells and shows an example of writing a descriptive text. Then the writer and the reader feel that it is not boring to write and read the written descriptive text.

The Concept of Edmodo

  • The Definition of Edmodo
  • Steps in Applying Edmodo
  • The Advantages of Using Edmodo
  • The Disadvantages of Edmodo

Therefore, there is a positive and significant impact of using edmodo on students' descriptive text writing in the tenth grade of Muhammadiyah 1 Metro Senior High School. So, there is a positive meaning in the use of edmodo in writing the descriptive text of students in the tenth grade of Muhammadiyah 1 Metro Senior High School. There is a positive and significant impact of using edmodo on students' descriptive text writing in the tenth grade of Muhammadiyah 1 Metro Senior High School.

There is not a positive and significant influence of using edmodo on students' writing descriptive text in tenth grade at Senior High School of Muhammadiyah 1 Metro. There was a significant impact of edmodo on students writing descriptive text in tenth grade in SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Metro.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Population, Sample and Sampling Technique

  • Population
  • Sample
  • Sampling Technique

The writer uses pre-test and post-test as a data collection method to measure the descriptive copy-writing ability of the students. After the treatment, the post-test is administered to determine whether the use of these media can influence the writing of descriptive texts by the students. Based on the table above, it can be seen that the students who failed the test were those who scored below 70.

The researcher used the t-test formula to find out whether there is positive and significant influence of edmodo on students' writing descriptive text in tenth grade at Senior High School of Muhammadiyah 1 Metro. Preparation of the table to prove whether there is an influence of edmodo on students writing descriptive text in tenth grade at Senior High School of Muhammadiyah 1 Metro. From the value above, it can be inferred that there is a positive and significant influence of edmodo on the students' writing descriptive text in the tenth grade at Senior High School of Muhammadiyah 1 Metro.

The critical value of "X2observed" was 10.7, in conclusion, edmodo can affect students' descriptive text writing in the tenth grade of Muhammadiyah 1 Metro Senior High School. Therefore, it can be concluded that "there is a positive and significant influence of edmodo on the descriptive text writing of students in the tenth grade of Muhammadiyah 1 Metro Senior High School". The variables were tested using the calculation of Chi-Square and T-test to investigate whether there is a positive and significant impact of using edmodo on the descriptive text writing of students in the tenth grade of Muhammadiyah 1 Metro Senior High School.

This means that the correlation between the use of edmodo and the students' writing of descriptive text is significant. Finally, the result of this research explained that the theory of the influence of the use of edmodo media on the students' writing of descriptive text was successful at the tenth grade of Senior High School of Muhammadiyah 1 Metro. Based on the analysis data above, the researcher concluded that "there was a positive and significant influence of edmodo on the students' writing descriptive text in the tenth grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Metro."

The Operational Definitions of Variables

  • Independent Variable
  • Dependent Variable

Data Collection Methods

Observation is the most used method especially in studies related to behavioral sciences.50 The researcher used this method to get data information about the use of edmodo by the teacher, and the condition of students, learning facilities and location sketch of the school, Employees. According to Donald Ary, a testis is a set of stimuli presented to an individual in order to elicit responses based on which a numerical score can be assigned.51 Thus, Lorraine said that a test is a formal, systematic, is usually a paper-and-pencil procedure. for gathering information about people's cognitive and affective characteristics.52Furthermore, the researcher uses test as a data collection method to measure both the variable. This step is done before the special treatment is offered to find out the ability and to know to what extent the students' descriptive text writing ability.

Documentation as a method used to extract information from the written language of a document (for example: books, journal, rule, note, and others). The writer uses the documentation method to get detailed information about the history of the school, the sum of teachers, employers, students and organizational structure at Muhammadiyah 1 Metro Senior High School.

Research Instrument

  • Instrument Blueprints
  • Instrument Calibration

The author uses the same type of pre-test and post-test instruments in this research. The pre-test instrument differs from the post-test instrument, but has the same level of difficulty. This test is chosen as the instrument because it requires students to express their own idea and determine the scale of instrument.

In addition, students write according to their own idea and creativity, which could motivate them to improve their writing ability. In addition, instrument calibration is a review or examination of the instrument elements made by the researcher. We can conclude that the instrument calibration is the measuring scale used to decide the action in this research conducted by the researcher.

The research uses content validity so that the instrument has a good quality, and the instrument will be relevant to the focus of the research. The content validity is used to make it easy for the writer to determine the students' writing ability, like fair, good, poor and others. Therefore, the author uses content validity based on the curriculum and materials of the Senior High School of Muhammadiyah 1 Metro.

Data Analysis Technique

Descriptive text writing pretest result of tenth grade students of Muhammadiyah 1 Metro Senior High School. Descriptive Text Writing Post-test Score of Students in Grade Ten of Muhammadiyah 1 Metro Senior High School. The table above shows that students who scored at least 75 points passed the test, namely 13 students or 65%.

During the research, the writer noticed that children are interested in learning descriptive text through edmod. The writer hypothesized that teaching and learning using edmod can influence students' descriptive text writing. Through edmodo, students learn new experiences in an easier way, as students can more easily and efficiently compose a descriptive text.

This medium can be used to ask students how to use edmodo in the right context and enrich descriptive text writing. The result of this research did not discuss all the problems faced by the students. The instruments were appropriate for the subject the students are learning, but in learning English as a foreign language, they focus on writing descriptive text.

It is very pleasant because edmodo made the students active in the class when the material was presented. The principal is suggested to adapt and improve the English curriculum based on the real problems faced by the students. This strategy can promote students to study English, especially to learn English material given.

To be more active in learning English through edmodo because it can help the students to enjoy the material given by the teacher.

Research Data

Hypothesis Testing

  • Putting the Data into Formula T-test

The contingency table of the expected frequency in the student's vocabulary mastery result in pre-test and post-test. First, the researcher prepared the table and put the data into the t-test formula as below to get "t-observation". To know the critical value of ttest (ttable), the researcher first counted df, df is degree of freedom.

The table above showed that the total pre-test or pre-treatment sample was 20 with a minimum value of 20 and a maximum of 80, the mean of the pre-test was 48 with a standard deviation of 17.3281. While the total post-test or post-treatment sample was 20 with a minimum of 45 and a maximum of 85, the post-test mean was 70.75 with a standard deviation of 10.93943.

Discussion

All students always attended the class from the first treatment to the last treatments, they were also active in the class during the presentation of the material using the edmodo.

Limitation

This is apparent from the score comparison between pre-test and post-test (see Chapter IV). The rector is suggested to support the English learning process by fully preparing the guidance and the instrument. It is suggested to develop their ability to have success in learning English.

It is better for the teacher to use medium when teaching English material because it can improve the student's English learning result. It is suggested that the teacher imparts knowledge to the student to be active in every English learning process.
