Praise be ever to Allah, the king of mankind, who created man as the best of creatures among his creation and also all mankind throughout the world without exception. Donate and give peace always to our precious Prophet Muhammad s.a.w., who brought mankind from darkness to the age of light. Peace be upon him who has always been an inspiration and role for all people, especially Muslims.

This undergraduate thesis entitled "ANALYSIS OF THE PROBLEMS OF THE STUDENTS OF THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OF IAIN METRO IN WRITING THE THESIS PROPOSAL FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2019/2020". In connection with the undergraduate thesis, the author would like to thank the patron Dr. Kuryani, M. Pd and co-sponsor, Syahreni Siregar, M. Hum, who sincerely guided the writer in producing the undergraduate thesis.

The author hopes that at least the result of this research can make an important contribution to the learning of English, whether at school or at university.

From the table above shows that many students still face problems in writing undergraduate thesis proposal. The writer will find out the factors that cause the English students' problems in writing undergraduate thesis proposal. To investigate the student's problems in writing undergraduate thesis proposal at IAIN Metro Academic Year 2019/2020.

To investigate the problem factors of the student's difficulties in writing the university thesis proposal in the IAIN Metro 2019/2020 academic year. To provide solutions to solve the difficulties of the student's problem in writing the university thesis proposal in the academic year IAIN Metro 2019/2020. Various in the first preliminary research focuses on thesis writing in English, while this study focuses on students' difficulties in writing university thesis proposal.

The difference is that this study focuses on the student's difficulties in writing the university thesis proposal. So, this research will conduct the new type of research regarding the student's difficulties in writing the university thesis proposal.

The second proposal entitled “Using the Brain GYM method to increase the student's reading comprehension ability in the eighth grade of SMP PGRI 1 Braja Selebah in the academic year. The first proposal entitled "The influence of student psychology on the speaking ability of tenth graders of SMA N 2 Natar academic year 208/2019". The researcher wants to focus the research on classroom action research, but mentions the word “Application.” in the title.

The proposal titled “Effect of Using Synonymous Context Cue on Reading Comprehension in First Grade SMA Purnama Trimurjo Academic Year. The second proposal entitled “The use of film as a medium to improve the speaking skills of seventh graders of Smp Muhammadiyah 4 Metro School in the academic year. He identified several research problems including the following: “it should be “the researcher identified several research problems as follows:”.

The first question "Do you know how to write a final thesis proposal?" the respondents answer that they already know how to write the graduation proposal. The last question “What did you do to solve the problems when writing the graduation proposal?” The last question was about how the respondents solve their problems when writing the graduation proposal.

RESULT AND DISCUSSION

Description of Researching Setting

  • Profile of State Islamic Institute of Metro

As of 2011, STAIN Jurai Siwo Metro continued to strive for the development of STAIN Jurai Siwo Metro into IAIN Metro. STAIN Jurai Siwo Metro was established in April based on President RI's Explanatory Letter No. The establishment of STAIN Jurai Siwo Metro cannot be separated from the history of IAIN Raden Intan Bandar lampung.

Ki Hajar Dewantara 15 A, Iring Mulyo, East Metro, Metro City at the request of Metro Society. IAIN Metro has four faculties namely (1) Education (2) Faculty of Islamic Law (3) Islamic Publication and Communication, (4) Economics and Islamic Business. The Department of Education has eight study programs, namely: Department of Islamic Education (PAI), Study Program in Arabic Education (PBA), Department of English Education (TBI), Department of Islamic Primary Education (PGMI).

Name of Lectures and Official Employees of Tarbiyah and Education Training Faculty in Islamic State of Metro. The entire staff of Tarbiyah and the Education Training Faculty of the State Islamic Institute of Metro Academic Year 2019/2020. The total of students in State Institute for Islamic Studies of Metro is 8659 students.

Along with the status change from STAIN Jurai Siwo Metro to IAIN Metro, the English Education Department's (TBI) strata 1 (S1) as established in 2007 is also changed to the English Education Department in 2017. In the implementation of education, the English Education Department stands in the English Education that can integrate the Islamic values ​​and academic dimensions.

These are the visions and missions that involve all students in the Department of English Education at IAIN Metro. In line with the above statement, the Department of English Education always strives to develop quality in the teaching and learning process. Indeed, it will be a dynamic, open and courteous relationship between stakeholders in TBI IAIN Metro.

Data General Description

To prepare students to not only be English teachers who can actualize society benefits values, science, technology and art, but also be able to be agents to change society. After interviewing 20 students as a sample, the researchers find that some of the students find it difficult to write proposals due to limited reference works, lack of grammar and confused with their title and identified problem statement. The researcher analyzed 20 proposals from each respondent, where the result showed that there are some errors in the respondent's proposals, which are assessed based on six categories.

Some of the students are still confused and do not fully understand how to write a proposal correctly.

Data Analysis

  • The Result of Interview English Students Difficulties in Writing

In this study, the writer analyzed the final thesis proposal using the rubric for writing a final thesis proposal. The first proposal titled “An analysis of vocabulary skills using a mobile legend game among the eight graders at SMP YP 17 Tegineneng” mentioned the researcher about the nature of the vocabulary or a little explanation about it that is not accurate. The subtitles the researcher mentioned were “game-based learning” and “the impact through game in Vocabulary Learning”.

The third proposal entitled "The effectiveness of the picture word inductive model for students' reading comprehension in the tenth graders of Ma Ma'arif Nu 05 Sekampung East Lampung". The result of interview English Student's problems in writing the undergraduate thesis proposal the undergraduate thesis proposal. In order to know the reason why English students still have problems in writing the undergraduate thesis proposal properly.

The fifth question "Do you have problems writing a thesis?" From the fifth answer, all respondents answered that they have problems or some problems when writing a thesis. The sixth question “What is the problem in writing a thesis proposal?” from the answer, the writer got some problems in writing an undergraduate thesis proposal. Some of the respondents joined a course that provided a service to guide students in writing a thesis proposal because they were confused and had no idea how to write a proposal.

Based on the result of the interview, the writer found that many students were still confused when writing the bachelor thesis proposal. First, they can participate in the course, which has service to guide written proposal for bachelor's thesis and work in a small group. Second, they can read some of the previous theses from senior or the internet for reference in written proposal for bachelor's thesis.

According to the data analysis, the writer came to the conclusion that he found some of the difficulties of the student in writing the university thesis proposal of the students of the department of English in IAIN Metro in the academic year 2019/2020. So, it can be said that students have difficulty in writing the university thesis proposal is different for each individual. In addition, from the interview, the student's difficulties in writing the university thesis proposal are limited reference books, lack of grammar, still confused with the title of the thesis and identifying the problem in chapter I.

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

Conclusion

There are four common flaws in the proposal that the author analyzes, namely depth and breadth, logic and mechanics of English and references, formatting, table of contents. Based on the result of the interview, they know how to write in their proposal, but they find it difficult to write their proposal because they had limited reference works, lack of grammar, still confused with the thesis title and identify problem in chapter I. From the problem above are some solutions that can be used by English students.

First, they can participate in the course that provided the service to guide the students through proposal writing and group work. Secondly, they can read part of the previous thesis in the library or on the internet as a guideline for writing a proposal. The conclusion, there are four common mistakes, namely depth and breadth, logic and mechanics of English, then references, formatting, table of contents.
