ABSTRACT
Background: Hypertension is a problem both in Indonesia and in the world, where one of the risks of hypertension itself is stress which can be caused by a lack of sleep which is currently experienced by students. In Islamic perspective, sleep is highly recommended by the Muhammad SAW to maintain health.
Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between sleep duration and risk of hypertension on medical students of YARSI University batch 2015.
Methods: The researcher used a cross-sectional analysis of students who were screened using a questionnaire and will be tested using a cold pressor test (CPT) to determine the risk of hypertension.
Results: Respondents who have a duration of <6 hours with the results of hyperreactor CPT as many as 11 respondents (32.4%) and hyporeactors as many as 23 respondents (67.6%). Statistical tests with chi-square showed the results of P value = 0.148.
Conclusions: There was no significant relationship found in this study because there may be other factors not examined by researchers such as obesity, poor diet or lack of physical activity. In Islam it was exemplified by Muhammad SAW how sleep is one of the activities to maintain a healthy body.
