INTRODUCTION

Problem Statement

Objective of the Study

Rotating trio exchange is one of the techniques that can help teachers improve students' speaking performance in speaking English and interest in learning English. The result of data analysis of the students' pretest accuracy in the control group shows that the maximum score is 55.6 and the minimum score is 16.7. The distribution of frequency and percentage scores of students' speech accuracy in pre-test and post-test.

The result of data analysis of the students' pre-test statement in control group shows that maximum score is 83.3 and minimum score is 16.7. The distribution of frequency and percentage score of students' speaking pronunciation in pre-test and post-test. The result of data analysis of the students' pre-test fluency in control group shows that maximum score is 66.7 and minimum score is 16.7.

The distribution of the frequency and percentage score of students' speaking performance during the pre- and post-test. The result shows that the Cooperative Learning type of Rotating Trio Exchange, which was applied in the experimental classroom, can improve the speaking performance of students. The mean score and standard deviation of the speaking students are shown in the table below.

During the post-test, the mean score is 53.8 and the standard deviation is 3.6. The students' grammar when speaking is shown in Table 14. The mean score and standard deviation of the students' speaking performance are shown in the table below. It means that the speaking performance of the students improves when they are taught by applying Rotating Trio Exchange.

This means that the exchange of triples is interesting for students in improving their speaking performance. The discussion part reveals the interpretation of the data analysis in relation to the speaking performance of the students and the exchange of triplets. For the students' speaking grammar, the score data of the students in the experimental group that was taught with the rotation triple exchange significantly improved.

There is a difference in the students' speaking performance between the control and experimental groups after the treatment. The speaking performance of the students in the experimental class taught by rotating trio exchange significantly improves over the control class taught by conventional way. The improvement of the students' speaking performance cannot be separated from the students' interest in rotating trio exchange during the teaching and learning process.

In other words, the improvement of the students' speaking performance was strongly related to the students' interest created during the use of rotating trio exchange.

Definition of Speaking

Speaking Performance

He not only uses knowledge about the language he speaks himself, but also strengthens the power to show how the language he speaks can be understood and meaningful. When speaking, we not only pay attention to grammar, but also ensure good pronunciation. a) Accuracy. Brown (1994) defined accuracy in speaking performance as the degree to which speakers can concentrate their spoken output on the elements of phonology, grammar and discourse.

Pronunciation does not flow as what the language learner conveys necessarily, but pronunciation functions as the role of organic speech to utter an acceptable articulation of words. Intonation is undoubtedly an important point and a competent language user recognizes what meaning it has and can change the meaning of the word he utters by using it in different forms. Rather, it is the speaker's way of constructing sentences in speech. a) The study of language, which deals with the form and structure of words (morphology) and their usual arrangement in phrases and sentences (syntax).

Since the words reveal the meaning of the utterances, the language learners work under the necessity to use the words related to the need of what he is talking about in the communicative context. Fluency, it is highly complex ration mainly relates to smoothness of continuity in discourse, it includes a consideration of how sentence pattern varies in word order and omits element of structure, and also certain aspect of the prosily of discourse (Heaton, 1988). .

The Concept of Rotating Trio Exchange

  • Definition of Rotating Trio Exchange
  • Tips to Solve Some Problem May Occur
  • Supported Factors in Rotating Trio Exchange

The rotating trio exchange can also be said as a way where the teacher or trainer composes different questions that help students start a discussion about the content of the course (Wolfe, 2010:5). As Wolfe (2010:5) stated, when asking students questions in a rotating triple exchange format, questions with no right or wrong answers should be used. The rotating trio exchange is one technique where students can share with other friends.

According to Silberman, the teacher or trainer can use pairs or quartets instead of trios when applying rotational trio exchange. In a rotating trio exchange, the students are given time to think about their own answers to the question. Because rotating trio exchange is a new technique, it gives students time to actively interact with the other friends, making them more interested in the learning process.

Like other forms of cooperative learning, problems can arise when rotating trio exchanges are used in the classroom. A teacher has an important role in achieving success in the classroom, especially when using the rotating trio exchange technique.

The Concept of Interest

  • Interest
  • Types of Interest
  • Factor Influencing Student Interest
  • The Measurement of Interest

Of course, to make students healthy, not only at the beginning and during the learning process, but after this activity, especially for society in the future. So in this case interest should be taken into account because no matter what students do they will not do well if they are not interested in what they are doing as Palmer in Byrne (1989) states that people are not good at anything learn unless they are interested in what they are learning. Based on some definition above, we can conclude that interest is someone's feeling of liking something.

Manifest interest is that which is observable as a result of individuals participating in a given activity may be necessary or certain fringe benefits may occur. It is usually valuable to observe the activities associated with the event as well as the individual participation the degree shows interest. This criterion is based on the accumulation of the relevant information as well as specialized vocabulary.

Junaid (1992) says that there are basically two factors that can influence the students' motivation as well as their interest in learning, that is: internal and external factors. Internal factors such as the students' attitude towards a subject and the students' aptitude or linguistic ability.

Theoretical Framework

Conventional method refers to the activity in which students of a control group are taught using group work, without using rotating trio exchange. Rotating trio exchange refers to the activity in teaching students in experimental group, consists of the main steps of grouping students into trios, then giving rotation exchange to the group and discussion. Output refers to the improvement of students' speaking performance when speaking English in front of their friends, in terms of their accuracy and fluency.

Resume

When interest is related to learning, teachers can increase student learning outcomes by designing teaching and learning methods or media that engage students' interest.

Hypothesis

In the control class, there is only a small significance of the students' score improvement in the pretest and posttest. Overall, the students' scores of the control class move only slightly significantly in both the pretest and posttest. The result of data analysis of the students' pretest in the grammar term control group shows that the maximum score is 50 and the minimum score is 16.7.

The result of data analysis of the students' pre-test of vocabulary term control group shows that maximum score is 66.7 and minimum score is 16.7. The result of data analysis of the students' final score of accuracy and fluency in pre-test in control group shows that maximum score is 61.1 and minimum score is 22.2. The students' accuracy in post-test was pronunciation is slightly even very slightly influenced by the mother tongue.

The improvement of the students' speaking fluency and the students' speech are essential, included in the students' speaking ability.

RESEARCH METHOD

Population and Sample

The population of this research was the tenth year students of SMAN 6 Bulukumba with eight classes; each class consists of. The population of the research was the tenth grade students of SMAN 6 Bulukumba in the academic years 2013-2014. The samples were class X.A as experimental group consisting of 18 students and X.B students as control group consisting of 18 students.

Research Variables

The Instrument of The Research

Procedures of Collecting data

This result shows that there is a significant difference of students' scores in the posttest between the control and the experimental class. The frequency and percentage of the students' pretest and posttest scores show that the use of rotating triple exchange affected the improvement of students' speaking performance in the experimental classroom. This significant improvement is also confirmed by the fact that the comparison with the value of the table t.
