CROWN & BRIDGE DEP .l\RTI1ENT TO PRESENT COURSE
A course in Fixed an Remov~ble Par- ti1l Prosthodontics and Ceramics will be given by the Crown and Bridge and Partial Denture Dep~rtment June 28-30. All three days of the course will be open to mem- bers of the IUSD Advanced Partial Pros- thodontics Society, and the second day will be open to the general dental pub-
lic. A dinner for the general denaal public will be held in the Union Build-
ing on June 30, closing the session. At- tending will be former gradu~te students from South .America~, Canada~ Puerto Rico and Mexico, as well as the U. S.
A.A.D.S. CONFERENCE SESSION ON DENTAL LIBRARIES IN TORONTO JULY 27
The second conference session on dental libraries will convene on July 27 during the 42nd annual session of the American Association of Dental Schools in Toronto. The theme of the Conference will be "Library Needs and Responsibilities for Dental Education and Research". Dr. Ralph McDonald will participate in the panel discussion, presenting a paper entitled, "The li- brary: its importance in the graduate program". During the past year~ Mrs.

FACULTY TRAVELS
Dean Maynard K. Hine attended a meeting of the National Advisory Den-
tal Research Council in Washington, D. C. June 21-22, before leaving for his European tour on June 24.
Dr. David K. Hennon, Department ·of Preventive Dentistry, presented a scien-
tific exhibit at the meeting of the American Medical Association in New York June 20-25.
Dr. R. S. Ping, Department of Oral Surgery, attended a conference on pain control sponsored by the American Den- tal Society of Anesthesiology held in Columbus, Ohio on June 20-22.
Dr. Wi 11 iam Shafer, Department of Oral Pathology, served as .consultant to the Veterans Administration Hospi- tal in CinciLnati, Ohio, on June 18- 19 and again on June 25-26.
Dr. David Mitchell, Department of Oral Diagnosis-Oral Medicine, returned from Europe June 23 and left again June 24 to attend a panel meeting of the PHS in Ilethesda, Maryland, which will re- view applications for fellowships.
Dr. Varoujan Tchalian, Department of Oral Rehabilitation, will be at
MIT June 28 - July 2 for a sunnner course on Applications of Basic Sciences and Engineering to Oral Prosthetics.
ALARM SYSTEM INSTALLED
An alarm system has recently been installed in the basement and 5th floor animal rooms to draw attention to any defect in the operation of the air con- ditioners. The testing of this system during and after its installation was thought by many to be the fire alarm.
Apologies are extended and it is hoped that repetitions will not be necessary.
NEWS FROM STATE DOARD OF HEALTH Dr. David Gunn, Health Educator with the Dental Division of the Indiana State Board of Health, attended a workshop at the University of Michigan on dental care for the chronically ill and aged.
The theme of the workshop was the com- munity approach to the dental problems
of this group.
Summer Topical Fluoride Programs are being conducted by dental hygien- ists under local dental supervision in 8 communities this summer. They will serve as a demonstration and educational program to stimulate concern for dental care and preventive services.

GOODBYE AND GOOD LUCK!
The Department of Pedodontics gave a surprise going-away/baby shower party June 24 for mothers-to-be Jean Avery, Carol Gardner, Judy Quealy and Donna Wright, who will soon be leaving the de- partment. Each received a lovely crib blanket plus assorted necessary baby- care items in grab bag style. They were feted and well-wished while every-
one enjoyed the special cake and coffee served for the occasion. We are happy for you, girls, but will miss you all.
Doctors Scott Polizotto and John Lund of the Crown and Bridge Department are leaving this week, as well as Dr. and Mrs. Sumiya Hobo, who will be returning
to Japan the first week in July. They will be missed by everyone.

DR. DURSTONE GIVES YEARLY SEGMENTED ARCH TECHNIQUE COURSE June 21-26 marked the time for the yearly Segmented Arch Technique Course given by Dr. Charles Burstone. This year 27 orthodontists, coming from all parts of the U.S. and Canada, partici- pated in the course. Dr. Michi Taguchi
from Gumma-Ken, Japan also attended.

Dr. Don German, Research Director of the Clark-Cleveland Company, here con- sulting on an isotope study, related to denture stabilizing agents, being car- ried out in the department.
Dr. Kaare Langeland, Professor of Pathology at New York University School of Dentistry at Uuffalo, who is initia- ting a combined study with the depart- ment on a new resin filling material.
Dr. Robert McCune, a prospective graduate student, currently stationed at the USPHS in San Francisco.
The Crown and Bridge Department wel- comed a visitor from Hawaii, Dr. Ray Maesaka's father.
Mrs. D. Fay Wheeler, technician-re- search assistant from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, was here this week observing laboratory techniques in
the Oral Diagnosis-Oral Medicine lab.
