In this study, the use of media, namely serial image media, will make it easier for students to find writing ideas. Based on the above background, the researcher limits this research problem to the appropriate media, namely serial visual media to improve students' writing comprehension in English narrative texts. Based on the background, the research problem is: “Does serial visual media enhance students' ability in writing narrative texts in class VIII.5 of SMPN 8 Makassar?”.

Based on the formulation of the above research question, this study aims to enhance students' ability in writing narrative texts using serial visual media in class VIII.5 SMPN 8 Makassar.

Based on the above statement, it is clear that it is important for students to learn to write. When an American studies Spanish and learns that Spanish has two words for you, the American may ask, "Why does English only have one word for you?" An American learns about his culture. This purpose is to ensure that readers share the truth of the ideal.

The text has a different function than the overall structure, and the linguistic features of the text are called text types (genre). This is the part of the story where the narrator tells about something that will start a chain of events. In this part of the narrative where the complication is resolved or the problem is resolved.

Previous Related Study

Meanwhile, quantitative data were collected from four types of validity, outcome validity, process validity, dialogical validity and catalytic validity. In addition, the researcher implemented two of the four types of triangulation, namely temporal triangulation and researcher triangulation. This is evident from the pre-test and post-test results in each cycle, which gradually increase.

In addition, the use of picture series can improve the students' interest, motivation and attitude towards teaching.

Conceptual Framework

And from the last study, the researcher will use triangulation and investigator triangulation when the research conducted and retold is chosen as the genre of the text. Based on the conceptual framework, the researcher gave the students a series of visual media to measure the student's writing ability. The students will see in the slide and generate their ideas based on the pictures.

The researcher chose class VIII.5 as the sample of the research because most of the students had poor writing skills. Then the student determined the structure of the narrative text (Orientation, Complication, Resolution and Re-orientation). The analysis is used to find the significant difference in the students' written narrative text ability before and after using serial images as a medium.

The findings of this research deal with the classification of students' pre-test and post-test. Frequency and percentage of the students' writing in pre- and post-test scores Classification Frequency Percentage Frequency percentage. Therefore, the use of serial image media to improve students' writing ability, especially in writing narrative text, is very beneficial and effective.

Based on the findings and discussion, serial image media is a vital method for enhancing students' ability in writing narrative text in English. Therefore, the researcher concluded that writing narrative text using serial image media can improve students' ability to write narrative text of class VIII.5 in SMPN 8 Makassar. The pre-test and post-test result showed that there was a very significant difference, therefore the researcher concluded that the use of serial image media can improve the writing ability of students in SMPN 8 Makassar.

FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

Research Findings

To find out the answer to the research question in the previous chapter, the researcher conducted a test that was given twice. A pre-test was given before treatment which was the knowledge of the students' ability to write descriptive text before the treatment was given, while a post-test was given after treatment to know the students' writing skills after treatment was done and the result of the post-test of this research can answer the first question of this research which aimed to find out the improvement of students' ability in writing Narrative text using Serial Image Media at SMPN 8 Makassar. Based on the data from posttest above, the mean of the total posttest score was 78.66, the minimum was 90 and standard deviation was 5.297.

Therefore, the results of the pre-test and post-test after conducting the study were different. Furthermore, students in the fair category achieved an average of 54% on the pre-test and this dropped to 23% on the post-test. Finally, there were no students who were in the very good and very poor categories in the post-test.

Based on the mean score and standard deviation, pre-test and post-test in table 4.9 showed the result after the researcher did the research. The mean is the calculation of the number of data values ​​divided by the number of observations or the number of individuals. Therefore, another meaning of the mean is the middle value or mean of a group of observational data.

The standard deviation or standard deviation of the data collected in the frequency table. After the researcher administered the treatment using serial imaging media in the posttest, the mean increased to 78.66.

Discussion

The score on the writing test before students learned to use serial visual media was average. Therefore, the student of eighth grade SMPN 8 Makassar had average ability in writing narrative texts before treatment. Therefore, the result showed that using serial visual media to improve students' writing skills in narrative text in eighth grade SMPN 8 Makassar is beneficial to them.

In other words, the use of serial pictorial media can improve students' writing ability, especially in narrative text. The use of serial picture media made students more excited and interested in teaching and learning writing. Therefore, the result of this research also showed that the use of serial picture media could improve students' writing, especially in narrative text, which focuses on five aspects of writing, namely content, grammar, structure, vocabulary and mechanics.

The researcher notes that the use of serial image media in writing a narrative text by students. There was a significant improvement in the writing ability of Grade VIII.5 students of SMPN 8 Makassar when using serial picture media. We suggest to the next researcher the use of serial image media in various substantive research.

Improving students' ability to write narrative text using short animated stories at Class VIII C of SMPN 2 Sanden. The effectiveness of using picture series to improve the students' writing skills, seen from their learning motivation.

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

Conclusion

It can be seen that the T-test score is 16.902, the writing test score before the students were taught to use serial image media, the mean of the pre-test was 59.40. After the researcher provided treatment using serial imagery, the mean increased to 78.66 on the post-test.

Suggestion

Improving students' ability to write English narrative text using a series of pictures for eighth-grade junior high school students. An experimental study in the seventh grade of SMPN 1 Tanjunganom Nganjuk in the academic year 2008/20092. Salatiga: National Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN), Department of English Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education.

Teaching writing using picture stories as tools at the high school level: moving from other regulation to self regulation. The influence of the use of serial pictures regarding the students' narrative paragraph writing ability among the twelve graduates of PGRI Senior High School 2 Marga Tiga in the academic year 2013/2014. Menyusun teks tertulis dari teks naratif, sesuai dengan konteks penggunaannya dengan memperhatikan tujuan, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan dengan benar dan sesuai konteks. Semut sangat rajin, mereka bekerja keras bersama-sama mencari makanan dan menyimpannya di sarangnya. Bahkan belalang pun menyapa semut “Halo semut, sudah dua minggu aku tidak melihatmu, kenapa kamu tidak datang ke rumahku untuk bermain?”.

Siswa mendengarkan penjelasan guru tentang teks narasi, termasuk fungsi sosialnya, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaannya. Guru menanyakan kepada siswa apa yang mereka simpulkan dari melihat, mengamati dan memahami teks narasi yang ada. Siswa mengolah gambar, mencocokkan gambar dengan kosa kata yang disajikan dan mendiskusikannya.

Guru memberikan pertanyaan berupa gambar kosong disertai kosa kata yang berkaitan dengan teks narasi. Siswa mengolah serangkaian gambar hasil diskusi dengan teman sekelasnya kemudian menuliskannya menjadi teks naratif dengan kalimat yang sesuai.
