MORNING Time of Issue: 0745 hours IST ALL INDIA WEATHER SUMMARY AND FORECAST BULLETIN

Significant Weather Features

Advancement of Southwest Monsoon:

♦ The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) continue to pass through Lat.15°N/Long.60°E, Lat.15°N/Long.70°E, Karwar, Chikmagaluru, Bengaluru, Dharmapuri, Lat.10°N/ Long. 80°E, Lat. 11.0°N/ Long. 83°E, Lat.14.0°N/ Long.86°E, Lat.21.0°N/91°E, Aizwal, Kohima and 26.50°N/95°E.

♦ Conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest monsoon into some more parts of Central & North Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of northeastern states and some parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during next 2 days.

Rainfall/thunderstorm Forecast & Warnings:

♦ A cyclonic circulation lies over Northwest Bay of Bengal in mid-tropospheric levels; the eastwest trough from the cyclonic over Southeast Uttar Pradesh to Nagaland, north-south trough roughly along Long.88°E & to north of Lat.20°N and strong southwesterly winds from Bay of Bengal to Northeast India at lower tropospheric levels; Under their influence:

i) Fairly widespread/ widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls very likely over Northeast India and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during next 5 days.

ii) Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely over Assam & Meghalaya on 03rd & 04th and over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal &

Sikkim during 03rd-06th June. Isolated extremely heavy falls also likely over Meghalaya on 03rd June.

iii) Isolated/scattered rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds very likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal next 5 days.

♦ Under the influence of monsoonal westerly winds from Arabian Sea over the south peninsular India and shear zone runs along Lat.10 N across South Peninsular India in lower tropospheric levels:

i) Fairly widespread/ widespread light/moderate rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Coastal & South Interior Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe and Lakshadweep and isolated to scattered over Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, North Interior Karnataka &

Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal during next 5 days. Isolated heavy rainfall also likely over Tamilnadu & South Interior Karnataka during 03rd & 04th and over Kerala & Mahe on 03rd & 05th & 06th June, 2022.

Heat wave conditions in isolated places very likely over Rajasthan on 03rd; over south Punjab, south Haryana, south Uttar Pradesh &

north Madhya Pradesh on 03rd & 04th and over Vidarbha during 03rd-05th June, 2022.

Main Weather Observations

Rainfall/thundershower observed (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday): at a few places over Assam & Meghalaya and Lakshadweep and at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, West Bengal & Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Madhya Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Kerala & Mahe and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.

Thunderstorm observed (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday): at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Bihar, Assam & Meghalaya, Tripura, West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Rayalaseema, Kerala and Coastal & North Interior Karnataka.

Heavy Rainfall observed (at 1730 hrs IST of yesterday): Heavy rainfall in isolated places over Assam.

Chief amount of Rainfall observed: (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday): (2 cm or more): ASSAM: North Lakhimpur-7, Guwahati-2;

North Interior Karnataka: Belgaum-3, Dharwad-2; Madhya Maharashtra: Kolhapur-2.

Heat wave condition (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday) observed at isolated places over West Rajasthan and Vidarbha.

Maximum Temperature Departures (as on 02-06-2022): Maximum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places Vidharbha; at isolated places over Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at a few places over Assam & Meghalaya, Madhya Maharashtra and at isolated places over Gujarat State, Marathwada, Rayalaseema and Tamilnadu, Puducherry &

Karaikal. They were below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal, Mizoram, Tripura and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the highest maximum temperature of 46.8°C was reported at Chandrapur (Vidharbha).

Minimum Temperature Departures (as on 02-06-2022): Minimum temperatures were above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Punjab; at many places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Marathawada and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam; at a few places over Jammu & Kashmir Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra and Telangana and at isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya, Gangetic West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh; They were below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at isolated places over Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the lowest minimum temperature of 20.0°C was reported at Udgir (North Interior Karnataka) over the plains of the country.

♦ The trough from Gangetic West Bengal to north Coastal Andhra Pradesh extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The north-south trough at 3.1 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 88°E & to north of Lat. 20°N persists.

♦ The cyclonic circulation over southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining Andaman Sea between 5.8 km & 7.6 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The Western Disturbance as a trough with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 73°E & to north of Lat. 32°N persists.

Weather Forecast for next 5 days * upto 0830 hours IST of 08th June, 2022

♦ Meteorological sub-division wise detailed 5 days precipitation forecast is given in Table-1.

♦ Gradual rise in maximum temperatures by about 2°C very likely over most parts of Northwest India during next 24 hours and thereafter fall by 2-3°C.

♦ No significant change in maximum temperatures very likely over rest parts of the country during next 5 days.

Weather Outlook for subsequent 2 days during 08th June-10th June, 2022

♦ Fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Northeast India and Islands.

03 June (Day 1): ♦ Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls at isolated places very likely over Assam & Meghalaya ; Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, South Interior Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Kerala & Mahe.

Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning/gusty winds (speed 40-50 kmph) at isolated places very likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands; with lightning/gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) at isolated places very likely over Jharkhand, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Gangetic West Bengal and Rayalaseema and with lightning at isolated places over Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Chhattisgarh, Assam &

Strong winds of 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph likely over south west Arabian Sea, Comorin area, gulf of Mannar, south Tamil Nadu coast. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas.

04 June (Day 2): ♦Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Assam & Meghalaya and heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, South Interior Karnataka and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.

Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning/gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) at isolated places very likely over Andaman & Nicobar Island, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal and with lightning at isolated places over Bihar, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Tamilnadu, Puducherry

& Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe and Lakshadweep.

Heat wave condition at isolated places likely over Vidarbha.

SIGNIFICANT WEATHER FEATURES

Advance of Southwest Monsoon: Southwest Monsoon had advanced into some parts of Southwest Arabian Sea, some more parts of Southeast Arabian Sea, Maldives & Comorin area and South Bay of Bengal on 26th May 2022 and the Northern Limit of Southwest Monsoon passed through 7.5°N/60°E, 7.5°N/70°E, 7.5°N/79°E, 8.0°N/83°E, 11.5°N/89°E, 16.0°N/93°E and 18.0°N/94.5°E on that day; it had further advanced into some more parts of South Arabian Sea, entire Maldives area & adjoining areas of Lakshadweep and some more parts of Comorin area on 27th and the Northern Limit of Southwest Monsoon passed through 9.5°N/60°E, 9.5°N/70°E, 9.5°N/73°E, 7.5°N/77°E, 8.0°N/83°E, 12.5°N/90°E, 16.0°N/93°E and 18.0°N/94.5°E on that day; it advanced into remaining parts of South Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area, most parts of Kerala, some parts of south Tamil Nadu and Gulf of Mannar and some more parts of Southwest Bay of Bengal on 29th May 2022; thus, the Southwest Monsoon had set in over Kerala on 29th May, 2022 against the normal date of 01st June(3 days ahead of normal date);the Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) passed through lat. 12°N/ Long. 60°E, Lat. 12°N/ Long. 70°E, Kannur, Palakkad, Lat. 9°N/

Long. 79°E, Lat. 8.0°N/ Long. 83°E, Lat. 12.5°N/ Long.90°E, Lat. 16.0°N/Long.93°E and Lat.18.0°N/Long.94.5°E on 29th May 2022; it had advanced into some parts of Central Arabian Sea, some parts of Karnataka, entire Kerala, some more parts of Tamil Nadu, entire Southeast Bay of Bengal, some more parts of Southwest Bay of Bengal, most parts of Eastcentral Bay of Bengal, some parts of Westcentral and Northeast Bay of Bengal on 31st May 2022; the Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) passed through Lat.

15°N/ Long. 60°E, Lat. 15°N/ Long. 70°E, Karwar, Chikmangaluru, Bengaluru, Dharmapuri, Lat. 10°N/Long.

80°E, Lat. 11.0°N/ Long. 83°E, Lat.14.0°N/Long.86°E, Lat.20.0°N/Long.91°E and Lat.22.0°N/Long.93°E on that day and remained the same till the end of the week.

♦ Movement of Western Disturbances had caused scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/thunderstorm activity over Jammu Kashmir & Ladakh on most of the days and isolated to scattered rainfall/thunderstorm activity over Himachal Pradesh on three to four days during the week; passage of the systems along with an east-west trough across the northern plains had caused fairly widespread rainfall/thunderstorm activity over Uttarakhand on one day and isolated to scattered rainfall/thunderstorm activity over the same areas on the remaining days of the week; under the influence of the above systems and an induced cyclonic circulation over Northwest India, plains of Northwest and Central India also received isolated rainfall/thunderstorm activity on many days; isolated thundersquall/hailstorm also had been reported over the plains during the week;

♦ A squall line had developed and moved across Delhi and adjoining Noida between 1612 IST and 1712 IST on 30th May, 2022; during the passage of the Squall line, a maximum wind speed of 100 kmph was recorded at IMD Safdarjung observatory at 1640 hrs IST whereas 70 kmph was recorded at IMD Palam observatory at 1630 hrs IST; isolated hailstorm activity also had been reported along with, during the passage of the squall line.

♦ An east-west trough from Northwest India to East & Northeast India in the lower tropospheric levels, cyclonic circulations/troughs in the lower and middle tropospheric levels and convergence of southwesterlies/southerlies from Bay of Bengal over the areas had caused scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/thunderstorm activity over parts of Northeast and adjoining areas of Sub Himalayan West Bengal &

Sikkim and isolated rainfall/thunderstorm activity over parts of East India on most of the days during the week; isolated heavy/very heavy rainfall had occurred over Sub Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim throughout the week and over Assam & Meghalaya on two to three days; isolated heavy rainfall had been reported over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura also on three days during the week.

♦ Under the influence of cyclonic circulations in the lower/middle tropospheric levels along with convergence of monsoon westerlies causing moisture incursion over the areas had caused scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/thunderstorm activity over extreme south Peninsula and Lakshadweep Islands and isolated to scattered rainfall/thunderstorm activity over remaining parts of Peninsular India on many days during the week; isolated heavy rainfall activity had been reported over Kerala & Mahe on four to five days and over remaining parts of south Peninsula on one or two days along with.

Heavy rain:

♦ Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places had occurred over Sub Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on two days; over Assam & Meghalaya and Kerala & Mahe on one day each during the week.

♦ Heavy rainfall at isolated places had occurred over Sub Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on five days;

over Kerala & Mahe on four days; over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry

& Karaikkal on three days each; over Assam & Meghalaya and Bihar on two days each; over Coastal and Interior Karnataka on one day each during the week.

Temperature Scenario:

♦ The highest maximum temperature of 46.2oC had been recorded at Ganganagar (West Rajasthan) on 1st June 2022 and the lowest minimum temperature of 19.0oC had been recorded at Narnaul (Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi) on 26th May 2022 over the plains of the country during the week.

METEOROLOGICALANALYSIS

♦ Last week’s trough in westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level ran roughly along Long. 85°E

& to the north of Lat. 25°N on 26th May 2022; it was seen with its axis roughly along Long.89°E & to the north of Lat.25°N between 3.1 km & 5.8 km above mean sea level on 27th; it was seen with its axis roughly along Long 89°E & to the north of Lat.23°N between 1.5 km & 3.6 km above mean sea level on 28th; it was seen with its axis roughly along Long 89°E & to the north of Lat.23°N at 1.5 km above mean sea level on 29th; it has moved away east-northeastwards on 30th May 2022.

♦ Last week’s north-south trough from North Interior Karnataka to south Tamilnadu ran from North interior Karnataka to Comorin area and extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 26th May 2022; it has become less marked on 27th May 2022.

♦ Last week’s cyclonic circulation over Nagaland & neighbourhood at 3.1 km above mean sea level has become less marked on 26th May 2022.

♦ Last week’s cyclonic circulation over Haryana & neighbourhood extending upto 2.1 km above mean sea level has become less marked on 26th May 2022.

♦ Last week’s cyclonic circulation over south Odisha & neighbourhood extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level has become less marked on 26th May 2022.

♦ Last week’s north-south trough from east Bihar to north Coastal Andhra Pradesh across Jharkhand and Odisha between 1.5 km & 2.1 km above mean sea level has become less marked on 26th May 2022.

♦ A Western Disturbance was seen as a cyclonic circulation over Iran & neighbourhood at 3.1 km above mean sea level on 26th May 2022; it was seen as a cyclonic circulation over Iran and adjoining Afghanistan at 3.1 km above mean sea level with a trough aloft in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 58°E & to the north of Lat. 30°N on 27th; it was seen as a trough in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long.68°E & to the north of Lat.34°N on 28th and roughly along Long.72°E & to the north of Lat.32°N on 29th; it was seen as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and neighbourhood between 3.1 km & 5.8 km above mean sea level on 30th; it was seen as a trough in mid tropospheric westerlies between 3.1 km & 4.5 km above mean sea level with its axis roughly along Long.78°E & to north of Lat.30°N on 31st May 2022; it has moved away east-northeastwards on 1st June 2022.

♦ An east-west trough ran from northwest Rajasthan to Interior Odisha across north Madhya Pradesh &

Chhattisgarh at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 26th May 2022;

it ran from northwest Rajasthan to south Bihar across south Haryana & south Uttar Pradesh at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 27th; it ran from south Punjab to East Uttar Pradesh across Haryana at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 28th;it ran from northwest Rajasthan to east Assam across Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar

& Sub- Himalayan West Bengal and extended upto at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 29th; it ran from the cyclonic circulation over northwest Rajasthan to north Bangladesh across south Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and extended upto at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 30th; it ran from the cyclonic circulation over Haryana

& neighbourhood to Bangladesh across south Uttar Pradesh, south Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal and extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 31st May 2022; it ran from the cyclonic circulation over southeast Uttar Pradesh to east Bangladesh across Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 1st June 2022.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over north Bihar & neighbourhood at 1.5 km above mean sea level on 26th May 2022; it has become less marked on 27th May 2022.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over Kerala & neighbourhood at 5.8 km above mean sea level on 29th May 2022;

it lay over Southeast Arabian Sea off north Kerala-Karnataka coasts between 3.1 km & 4.5 km above mean sea level on 30th; it has become less marked on 31st May 2022.

♦ A trough ran from the cyclonic circulation over Southeast Arabian Sea off north Kerala-Karnataka coasts to Southwest Bay of Bengal across Kerala & Tamilnadu at 3.1 km above mean sea level on 30th May 2022; it has become less marked on 31st May 2022.

♦ An induced cyclonic circulation lay over northwest Rajasthan & adjoining Pakistan and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 30th May 2022; it lay over Haryana & neighbourhood and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 31st May 2022;it has become less marked on 1st June 2022.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over Jharkhand & neighbourhood at 1.5 km above mean sea level on 30th May 2022; it has become less marked on 31st May 2022.

♦ A trough in westerlies with its axis at 3.1 km above mean sea level ran roughly along Long.85° E to north of Lat.25°N on 30th May 2022; it has moved away east-northeastwards on 31st May 2022.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over Bangladesh at 3.1 km above mean sea level with a trough aloft with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long.89°E & to north of Lat.22°N on 31st May 2022; it was seen as a cyclonic circulation over south Bangladesh & adjoining North Bay of Bengal between 3.1 km & 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height on 1st June 2022.

♦ A Western Disturbance was seen as a trough in mid tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long.65°E & to north of Lat.32°N on 31st May 2022 and roughly along Long.68°E & to north of Lat.30°N on 1st Jun2 2022.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over southeast Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood and extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 1st June 2022.

♦ An east-west shear zone ran roughly along Lat. 10°N across South Peninsular India between 3.1 km & 4.5 km above mean sea level on 1st June 2022.
