GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY (Mk.16:15-18) The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark
And he said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover."
REFLECTION:
At the end of Mark's Gospel account, he tells us that the Lord Jesus who died on the cross for our sins and who rose on the third day to give us new life, now commissions his apostles to carry on the work and mission which he accomplished. Just before his departure to return to his Father in heaven, Jesus tells his apostles to "proclaim the Gospel to the whole creation" - to every person, village, and nation throughout the world. Jesus gives to his followers the task and mission to carry on the work which he accomplished for us - to bring the light and truth of the Gospel to all.
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, may I witness to those around me the joy of the gospel and the reality of your resurrection.
Amen.
