GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY (Mt. 20:17-28) The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew,

As Jesus was going to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside by themselves, and said to them on the way,

“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.”

Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee approached him with her sons and did him homage, wishing to ask him for something. He said to her, “What do you wish?” She answered him, “Command that these two sons of mine sit, one at your right and the other at your left, in your kingdom.” Jesus said in reply “You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I am going to drink?” They said to him, “We can.” He replied, “My cup you will indeed drink, but to sit at my right and at my left, this is not mine to give but is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.” When the ten heard this, they became indignant at the two brothers.

But Jesus summoned them said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and the great ones make their authority over them felt.

But it shall not be so among you. Rather, whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave. Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Reflections:

It is revealed in this gospel that if you want to find a glorious place in the kingdom of God, first you have to suffer with Jesus. One should not only focus on the glory but look at the passion like that of Jesus who suffered and died for all our sins. Glorification is God’s prerogative. Jesus strength and courage come not from self-glorification but from his obedience to the father’s will and his trust in his love. The thought of sharing in Christ‘s glory may give us strength in moments when following him seems so difficult. Pray that your hope may be based on Jesus’ trust in the father’s love rather than on your own capacity to endure.

Prayer:

Let us pray…

God, help us to fight temptations to turn our humble words to glorify your name. Amen…

St. John Baptist de La Salle…….Pray for us!

Live Jesus in our hearts………… Forever!

FROM THE OVCAD – INSTITUTIONAL HEALTH SERVICES:

Cont... Heart-healthy diet

Heart attack risk factors include:

Age. Men age 45 or older and women age 55 or older are more likely to have a heart attack than are younger men and women.

Tobacco. Smoking and long-term exposure to secondhand smoke increase the risk of a heart attack.

High blood pressure. Over time, high blood pressure can damage arteries that feed your heart by accelerating atherosclerosis. High blood pressure that occurs with obesity, smoking, high cholesterol or diabetes increases your risk even more.

High blood cholesterol or triglyceride levels. A high level of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (the "bad"

cholesterol) is most likely to narrow arteries. A high level of triglycerides, a type of blood fat related to your diet, also ups your risk of heart attack. However, a high level of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (the "good"

cholesterol) lowers your risk of heart attack.

Diabetes. Insulin, a hormone secreted by your pancreas, allows your body to use glucose, a form of sugar. Having diabetes — not producing enough insulin or not responding to insulin properly — causes your body's blood sugar levels to rise. Diabetes, especially uncontrolled, increases your risk of a heart attack.
