“In order to enforce and enhance road safety, 21 motorists were arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and 271 fines were issued for various road traffic related offences,” Bothma concluded”.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena commended the law enforcement for the successes and pointed out that the operations will continue to ensure the wellbeing and safety of all citizens by extending our reach to the community through Blue Light Visibility.
He urged the public to work together with law enforcement and to take precautionary measures to ensure their safety including during this weekend in which we will experience an influx of the public to malls and business centres for Black Friday shopping.

BRITS POS – BRITS - Police management in North West warns unsuspecting members of the community to exercise caution when responding to social media advertisements as criminals are coming up with ways to scam citizens.
The warning stems from a fake Facebook employment advertisement that was circulated since the beginning of November.
The advertisement invited people to apply for a
vacant position at Witrand Hospital in Potchefstroom. As a result, unsuspecting members of the community showed interest and applied and was contacted a cash demanding man claiming to be the Head of Human
Resource Management. It is alleged that the yet to be identified man refused to get cash payment and instead, instructed the applicants to pay him R3000 through a money market facility. The public is therefore urged be vigilant during this period and to contact the nearest police station or relevant government department should
they become suspicious of social
media vacant position advertisements and to never pay any money.

Man (32) fatally stabs girlfriend
BRITS POS – BRITS - Friday evening, 19 November around 21:00 residents on a plot in Rietfontein, Hartbeespoort heard their next-door neighbour, a woman (35) screaming.
When they went outside to assist, they found the naked body of the woman with multiple stab wounds to her body.
They alleged that they also saw her boyfriend running away from the scene. The
Madibeng Emergency Medical Service was contacted, but on arrival the woman was declared dead on the scene.
Apparently, the boyfriend of the victim then attempted to commit suicide by
hanging himself, but he was taken down by community members. The man fled the scene and with the rope still around his neck, he handed himself over at the Hartbeespoortdam police station and was arrested.
Maria Nkabinde, SAPS spokesperson confirmed that a case of murder was
registered at Hartbeespoortdam police station subsequent to the above incident.
Seboniso Dlamini (32) was arrested by the police and appeared before the Brits Magistrates’ court on Monday, 22 November 2021, for alleged murder.
He was remanded in custody and will appear again before the same court on Thursday, 1 December 2021, for a formal bail application.
BRITS POS – BOKFONTEIN - A woman (53) who lives on a smallholding in Bokfontein, south of Brits, was inside the bathroom of her house on Friday, 19 November around 06:00, when she heard a loud, banging noise.
Apparently, people were trying to gain entry into the house via the security door.
When she opened the bathroom door, three men had already entered the house and she tried to hide in the bathroom, but one opened the bathroom door and the woman started shouting for help. The suspect ordered her to keep quiet and threatened to kill her with a screwdriver.
A washcloth was forced into the victim’s mouth to stop her from screaming. The suspect demanded money, but the woman indicated that she did not have money and then she was allegedly pushed and fell into the bath where the suspect left her and fled. She did not sustain injuries.
The suspects got away with a plasma television set, DStv decoder and cellphone. The electric perimeter fence was compromised to gain access.
“We can confirm that a case of house robbery was registered at Mooinooi police station, subsequent to the above incident,” Maria Nkabinde SAPS spokesperson confirmed “and the suspects are still at large.” Anyone with information that can lead to the apprehension of the suspects can contact the Investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant Tshepo Majola of Mooinooi Detectives on 082 416 3598 or call the Crime Stop Hotline on 08600 10111. Anonymous tip-offs can be communicated via MySAPS application.

BRITS POS – KLIPGAT - On Sunday, 14 November 2021 a girl visited her boyfriend at his house in Klipgat and they were joined by three of his friends.
It is alleged that the boyfriend requested the girl to have sex with him and she obliged.

When they went back to where his friends were, he told the three friends to also have sex with the girl. Only two of the boys met their friend’s demand and raped the girl.

BRITS POS – BRITS - The “usual suspects” of plastic pollution by individuals – plastic bags and straws – now have company.
Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, disposable masks are lying discarded all over the country. And according to Brendon Jewaskiewitz, President of Institute of Waste Management of Southern Africa (IWMSA), the problem is snowballing.
“Studies have shown that globally, about 130 billion disposable masks are being used per month. That equates to an astounding 3 million per minute,” Jewaskiewitz points out.
“Although we don’t have exact figures for South Africa, as a nation we are rather careless about single-use plastics – and masks are no exception. With our population of more than 58 million people, we will most certainly be in line with these shocking global statistics.”
Not a waste problem - a human problem!
Jewaskiewitz emphasizes the issue of single-use masks and their disposal can’t be addressed without acknowledging that it is part of a bigger plastic pollution problem, and that human behaviour is at the core of it.
“These masks are not biodegradable,” he notes. “When they are exposed to the elements, like sunlight, they break down and fragment into micro- and nanoplastics. It is then spread into our ecosystems and consumed by animals and fish.”
He says there has even been instances where small animals have been found entangled in the “ear bands” of discarded masks. Users are therefore advised to snip these ear bands before putting their masks in a PPE-bin. “Many of these issues can be completely avoided by steering clear of single use masks in the first place,” Jewaskiewitz points out.
“Opt for a reusable mask whenever it’s possible.”
He says single-use masks are often chosen because of convenience.
“It’s the same argument we hear with plastic bags. People will say they packed shopping bags, but are too lazy to walk back to their car and fetch it, so they buy a plastic bag instead. Similarly, people now keep a bunch of disposable masks in their car.”
Education and awareness is key Simply putting items in a rubbish bin, waiting for it to be discarded by authorities, is also no longer good enough. “In South Africa, local municipalities are tasked with waste management,” Jewaskiewitz says.
“But with so many elements of service delivery taking strain, waste management is often shifted to the bottom of the pile when it comes to allocating resources.”
The result is that about 90% of local waste is landfilled, and only a very small portion is recycled or reused.
“Companies can make a difference by emphasizing the importance of reusable masks, as well as the correct disposal of single-use masks,”
he advises. “It should be as important in their communications as the Covid-19 safety protocols.”
He says looking at the bigger picture is crucial.
“People often think that the one disposable mask they throw away, makes no impact. But if every South African does that every single day, it very quickly turns into a massive problem.
“Likewise, if everyone makes an effort to reduce and recycle, it also makes a huge positive difference,” Jewaskiewitz concludes.

Flu cases in South Africa on the rise
According to the data released the total number of influenza cases detected by the syndromic sentinel surveillance programmes conducted by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has jumped from 68 to 226 during this period.
This includes influenza-like illness (ILI) and hospitalised cases of pneumonia.
The statement released on Wednesday
(17 November) said both the NICD and private laboratories have received reports of clusters of influenza cases in schools and workplaces. The public health institute said influenza A (H3N2), influenza A (H1N1) pdm09 and influenza B are seasonal influenza virus strains that are common in human populations. Meanwhile, influenza A (H1N1) pdm09, also known as “swine flu” has been one of the circulating
seasonal influenza strains following its emergence in 2009.However, according to the institute, the word “swine flu” should not be used as it causes unnecessary panic.
“The clinical course of infection with this influenza strain and clinical management is similar to that of other influenza strains,”
the NICD explained. To date, the most commonly detected subtype and lineage are influenza B Victoria (87/226, 38.5%) followed by influenza A (H1N1) pdm09 (53/226, 23.5%) and influenza A (H3N2) (24/226, 10.6%).

Niemand anders is beseer nie.

BRITS POS – BRITS - The Department of Health has extended the offer of R100 grocery vouchers to people in their 50s who receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine from 18 November 2021.
This comes after the department announced that during November, R100 vouchers, redeemable at the Shoprite group of food retailers, would be offered to people aged 60 and older. However, the department’s Vaccination Demand Task Team Lead, Dr David Harrison, said the uptake of the coupons has been poor, with only 8 135 redeemed to date. “We have also not seen a significant uptick in vaccinations among the over 60s,” Harrison said. For older people in particular, Harrison said vaccination may determine whether families spend their festive season visiting relatives in hospital or even attending funerals. “We are only two weeks in and it may be that the message takes time to filter down to everyone. However, we don’t have the luxury of time with the fourth wave approaching and must adapt our strategy quickly if it doesn’t seem to be having the desired effect,” he stressed. The data shows that almost two-thirds of people over 60 years have been vaccinated. “For this reason, the department plans to test the expansion of the offer to people in their 50s as well.”

KINGJAMES 54378EQuestion: A family member passed away from Covid-19. Can I make a claim from my funeral plan?
Answer: “Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, thousands of families have lost loved ones, often without much warning. It is an extremely heart-breaking situation and is very stressful and emotional.
Covering the costs for their passings could be difficult if the funds are not readily available, especially if you need to say goodbye to more than one loved one at one time. This could land you in a challenging financial situation when costs need to be covered quickly, but there is not enough money.
Without a funeral plan, you or your family will be liable for these costs, which can add further strain to a difficult time. Turning to debt is often seen as the only option as funerals can cost as much R100 000.
With proper financial planning, whereby you take out a funeral plan, if this circumstance happens to you, you will be covered for your and your
family’s passings – providing you have had your funeral plan in place for six months. This is called the waiting period and applies to every policy that is taken out. The only exemption is for accidents, where the waiting period doesn’t apply. Covid-19 deaths are considered natural deaths and thus the waiting period applies.
Given this, it is advised to have cover in place should the unexpected happen, much like you’d prepare in advance for any other passing. With the pandemic having been around since March 2020, and with no sign of it leaving soon, it is wise to get your financial house in order now, to cover any losses within your family that may happen in the future.
If you have completed the waiting period, you can put in a claim immediately following the Covid-19 passing, providing you submit the following documents:
• Death certificate
• The deceased’s and beneficiary’s identity documents
• Beneficiary’s or policyholder’s bank statement or bank confirmation letter stating where the funds will be paid
• Medical practitioner competed BI-1663 form
• Police report if death was an accident
Should you wish to change insurers to Sanlam, and have completed their six month waiting period, you can do so and will receive immediate cover to the same value as your previous insurer.
Once your claim is approved, you could receive the pay-out in just four hours. This immediately provides the funds to make the funeral’s necessary arrangements e.g. to pay for the funeral parlour, the casket, groceries and accommodation. This ensures that the person who has passed suddenly from Covid-19 receives a dignified send-off.”

Inheemse kruie is mooi én
nuttig
Gebruik net ʼn paar blare of ʼn enkele takkie en gooi warm water by.

BRITS POS – PECANWOOD - South African golf will have yet another major international tournament on its fairways when the Pecanwood Classic make its debut as a co-sanctioned tournament between the Sunshine Tour and European Tour at the Pecanwood Golf & Country Club from 10-13 March 2022.
The new tournament will feature a prize fund of US$1.5 million and the field of 156 professionals will be split between Sunshine Tour and European Tour golfers competing at South Africa’s first Jack Nicklaus signature golf course.
“We’re delighted to welcome Pecanwood Golf & Country Club as the home of the new Pecanwood Classic on our Tour. As South Africa’s first Jack Nicklaus signature golf course, Pecanwood set a new benchmark for golf courses in South Africa when it opened, and we are extremely pleased to finally bring a major international Sunshine Tour and European Tour tournament to its fairways,”
said Thomas Abt, Commissioner of the Sunshine Tour.
“The Pecanwood Classic will be played in an important window for us in March and gives us a very strong finish to our summer schedule while at the same time providing our Sunshine Tour professionals with yet another big opportunity to compete for a place on the European Tour.”
Since its official opening in 1996, the Pecanwood golf course has welcomed several
amateur and professional tournaments to its fairways on the banks of the spectacular Hartbeespoort Dam and within an hour’s drive of both Pretoria and Johannesburg.
The Pecanwood Classic is a significant milestone in the golf course’s history and adds to the country’s already strong presence on the European Tour’s international schedule with a total of six South African tournaments now co-sanctioned by the Sunshine Tour and European Tour.
“We’re extremely excited to launch the Pecanwood Classic as an international tournament that will truly showcase the Pecanwood Estate’s status as one of South Africa’s first and still leading golf estates, offering a choice lifestyle in prestige and secure environment,” said Morné Botha, General Manager of the Pecanwood Estate Homeowners’ Association (HOA).
“We have no doubt that the backdrop of a world-class golf course, and a lifestyle estate offering everything from golf to boating will captivate the golfers and the international audience as much as it does our residents who call this magical piece of Africa their home.”
