1 njor Derman discussed the position of the ex- i ·eman in relation to the community. He h:isised that financial assistance was not a plete discha1ge of the community's obligation"' the ex-volunteer. Money alone could never 1mpense the returned c;;er~iceman for the sacri-

he had made, for th y ars and opportuniti s ad missed. If ex-servicemen's grievances were to become so ma sive as to threaten social and tical stability, the ex-serviceman must be made eel that his efforts ·were appreciated and that was welcome back. He should not l:ie allowed

rel that he had been a "sucker."

Ir. Dwolatzky dealt in detail with the work

11 by the War Appeal and the Board. He gave .i1ples of the kind of assistance that it has i possible to send from South Africa to Enro- n Jewry and described the position in regard

inunigration aud naturalisation of "enemy n · " He gave details and statistic with regar<l he number of discharged soldiers who had been

wd to become rehabilitated.

r. Melamet analysed the forces whi ·h bring ut economic and social change and ·howed how e are reflected in political reorientations and :ignments. In the long run the economic factor of primary importance. In the immediate

ll'P, however, the st:ruggle would be on a. purely

itical level and the victory would go to superior nisation and propaganda. Every individual t be made to feel his re pon ·ibility.

The Rev. B. Melamed welcomed the speak r:

J expressed his confidence that the Board wa$

hing closely dfl elopments in Pal stine.

11 calling upo1~ Mr. 8. Myers to propose a vot(·

thanks to the speakers, )fr. Volks said that heroism of J wish youth in Pale tine was a issance of that spirit of st'lf-seerifice which nifested itself i11 Biblical times. .Tews wen' oundly dissatisfied with the British Govern- t's at~itud , but 1etained their faith that .:mately British public opinion would see that

ice was done.
