1. Identification of the problem.
• The main aim of this step is to identify the problem.
• Your emotions and ego may make you misread the problem if they are not controlled.
• A second opinion is essential.
• Make a consensus to make sure that everyone is on the same page with regards to the problem identified.
2.Analyse the problem
• After identifying the problem break it down to ensure that you see the main cause.
• It is wise to put emotions aside and get as much information as possible.
• You must be sure to understand all the information you have collected concerning the problem.
• Only then can you move on to the next step.

3. Select and plan the solution
• Planning a solution ensures that the whole process does not fall apart hence the theory of plan A and plan B.
• It is not wise to have a single solution given that one could fail, a variety is always best.
• Begin to identify possible ways to solve the problem.
4. Implement the solution
• From the possible solutions select the best out of all the possible solutions.
• Be sure to have all the resources that are need to carry out the solution
• Solutions can be affected by rules, procedures, money etc ,always find a way to work around them.
• When solving the problem a PDSA should then be used to track the solution.

5. Evaluate the solution
• Study the stage of PDSA
• Check whether the solution worked or didn’t work.
• Did the solution work perfectly or did it fail really badly?
• The solution should not affect any other areas, meaning it cannot put forth another problem.
• This is the stage where you can act upon the problem and it can either be controlled or solved at this stage.
6. Make a standard decision
• From the five steps above make a decision whether you use or discard the information and solution.
• This the part where you decide to stay with the problem or solve it.
• Evaluate the weaknesses and the strengths of the solution.
• Have a clear understanding of all the causes then work on solving them first or the problem first.
