Identify and select the problem
Most conflicts, problems and disagreements are connected to emotional issues and an individuals ego. The STAR and PDSA method should be used in this step. Individuals should discuss and understand each other’s point of view and also keep an open mind, also come to an understanding after each discussion. This step requires an individual to be open minded, be willing to listen and be considerate of other peoples feeling s and views.
Once individuals have identified the problem they should write it down and also include a goal statement on the successful outcome of the problem.
Analysing the problem
In this step you should analyse where this problem coming from and what is the root of the problem. An individual wouldn’t want to be starting
problems if there was a good and reasonable explanation behind it.
Collect enough information of the reasons behind the problem. Once
enough information is gathered, take a very close look at what is going on.
Generate potential solutions
Now that the problem has been analysed, brainstorm on potential solutions that would solve the problem. Each individual should contribute a
suggestion on solutions. There are right or wrong answers and judgements should not be passed on another persons suggestions. Everyone should find common ground at the end of this step.
Select and plan the solution
In this step individuals should choose and agree on the best solution to be implemented. The choice must accommodate all individuals and factors like, time, procedures, rules, money and so forth should be kept in mind when selecting a solution.
Implement the solution
This is the DO stage and requires individuals to work out on a step-by-step procedure in implementing the solution. A scientific approach is also
required to observe specifically what is going on with the solution.
Evaluate the solution
This is the conclusive stage and evaluating if the solution worked or not, if not identify why if didn’t work and what change be changed in order for the problem to be 100% fixed and resolved.
Conclusion
In conclusion, problem solving is a step-by-step procedure. It requires individual to be in an agreement with every decision made.
