1. Matters Arising

Resignation of Councillors

-Following the current constitution of the SRC, the positions of Treasurer General, Sports and Societies Councillor and Media Councillor were filled.

IEB Election

-The council members approved individuals serving in IEB in 2022.

SRC Training Programme

The SRC Training Program had been approved. Council was to look for a venue in the Eastern Cape for this training session.

Elections of Hall Reps

-Councillor’s were set to do a Dining Hall visit the next week from Monday to Friday.

2. Reflections from O-week

-The Council commented on the relationship between the SRC and the Oppidan Committee and raised concerns with the postgraduate and international students registration process. Councillor’s gave suggestions on how these could be amended.

3. SRC Mentorship Program

-The idea is that each Councillor will be allocated a mentee from Fikizolo Primary School, not to tutor but to mentor/ role model and inspire. There would be 6 sessions and after these council members will be awarded certificates of recognition. This program was stated to be compulsory for the council and failure to participate would attract deductions.

4. Collaboration with Eastern Cape Liquor Board.

- The EC Liquor Board wanted to collaborate with the SRC to promote responsible drinking as SRC has access to the student body. Council noted that promoting responsible drinking in the Student Body is an urgent initiative considering the level of alcoholism in this University. This

benefits the Student Body and was an opportunity for the SRC to revive the brand of Rhodes University as it is well known when it comes to alcoholism.

5. Institutional Audit

- The DVC had received the document.

6. University Council Meeting 23 February 2022

-It was explained to the council that the purpose of the meeting was to consider, nominate, and elect the University Council Exec.

7. Constitutional Review

-Each Council should send a callout by 25 February 2022, and reviews should be submitted to Councillors by 7 March 2022.

-The Council will send feedback from their sub-structures to by 9 March 2022, and the amendments would be sent to Council by 10 March 2022

-Council would meet from 11 March to 13 March to conclude this matter.

8. Report from Equity and Institutional Culture Committee

-Human Rights Day Event hosted by the Equity and Institutional Culture Office was delayed due to the university being sued. The debate was to be titled "Are Mandatory Vaccines an infringement on human rights"

- The Disability committee gave a report that there will be a series of webinars highlighting silent disabilities. This aims at educating the staff and student body on lesser-seen disabilities.

9. Rejected Exemption Applications.

-The Council expressed concerns that students exemption applications were being rejected and the need to revisit the exemption document. The Council would enquire with the Appeal committee and also assure students that the matter is being looked into.

10. Other Matters Arising

Update on Fund to be started for Students

- There was a plan to start a new fund and the Alumni office had been approached about this initiative. The Alumni office suggested the revival of the UBUNTU fund.

-Councillors suggested that there should be a new fund so the council can stipulate rules and what the funds will be used for.

Yellow Card Campus Activation

-The presidency received an email promoting cryptocurrency information and requesting to have this information relayed to the Student Body.

-Council believed this was a scam, particularly because students were about to receive their allowances and thus this was not something the SRC should allow.

Invitation to the meeting by DASO, EFF, and SASCO

-Council received an invitation from these student political parties, requesting the council to attend a meeting on Sunday. Council rejected the invitation on grounds that the council does not work on weekends.
