MUSICAL treat is omised for Sunday night, the 3rd of March, when the combined Johannesburg Symphony Orchestras, numbering 78 players will present an attractive programme of well known works at the C los eum. MR. A. SHACKSNOVIS-

who has been appoi.nted King-'s Counsel. He is only 3!) years of age.

Mr. Shacksnovis had a brilliant academic career, and also distin- guished himself on the sport~

:field. He graduated from the Um- versity of Capetown, and in 1922 waf' elected Rhodes Scholar for the Cape Province, going into residence at Oriel College, Cxford. He was awarded a Hug by I3lue in his fi1 st term and a Water Polo Half-Blu~ in his third term.

Mr. Shacksnovis is the son of l\Ir.

J. D. Shacksnovis, a prominent com munal worker and Zionist and a former Vice-President of the S.A.

Zionist Federation. He himself is a keen Zionist, and has spoken on many Zionist platforms. Among the many societies-acadernic, social and sporting-with which he was as sociated in his student days was the Students' Jewish Association at the University of Capetown. He was President of this organisation for nearly three years, during which time he direcied its fight hr official re- cognition as a student society at the University.

"Magnificent Fraud" at the Colosseum

The great character actor, Akim Tamiroff, is "'een at the olosseum TheaLre in ".i\lagnificent Fraud." He act~ brilliantly in a fine story, in which he has the assistance of Patricia Morison and Lloyd Nolan.

The supporting programme at the Colosseum this week is of particular interest and is in itself worthv of a visit to the theatre. ·
