Gerty Labuschagne, ‘n jarelange inwoner van Brits is op 9 Oktober 2021 in die ouderdom van 81 jaar oorlede. Haar gedenkdiens vind op 25 Oktober 2021 om 14:00 vanuit die NG Kerk Krokodilrivier plaas. Die diens word deur dr Chris Gericke gelei. Gerty word deur haar twee kinders, Elna de Klerk en Jaco Labuschagne asook twee kleinkinders oorleef. Die familie bedank almal vir hulle blyke van simpatie en medelye.

Dit is met diep hartseer dat die familie van André Moolman, die gemeenskap meedeel dat hy op 12 Oktober 2021 in die ouderdom van 76 jaar oorlede is. André en sy gesin is sedert 1982 woonagtig in Brits en het die bekende Afsaal Winkel op Bokfontein bedryf.
Die besigheid het gegroei en AV Moolman Diesel het daaruit gespruit. Na aanleiding van verskeie boodskappe van medelye en simpatie, is dit ‘n riem onder die hart om te weet dat hy soveel mense positief beïnvloed het. Hy was alombekend vir sy vriendelikheid en vrygewigheid. Hy het diep empatie met sy medemens se lot gehad – waar hy nie finansieel bystand kon gee nie, het hy sy tyd mildelik gegee. Hy was ‘n ware “gentleman”
en ‘n gelowige man wat sy Bybel flenters gelees het. Alhoewel daar met groot hartseer van hom afskeid geneem word, wandel hy in die huis van sy Hemelse Vader. Vir meer inligting oor André se gedenkdiens, skakel Yvonne Moolman by 082 551 1648.
BRITS POS – BRITS - At midnight on Wednesday morning, 13 October 2021 at a village of farm workers just south of Brits, three men forced the door to one of the houses open and told the victim to remain silent.

They were armed with knives and a firearm. One of the suspects cocked a pistol and told the victim to hand over money and cellphones, and the victim complied.
Apparently, according to the victim, there were also more than seven suspects waiting outside who worked their way through
the village, robbing the residents of the other houses too.
“We can confirm that a case of house robbery was registered at Brits police station subsequent to the incident that took place on Wednesday,13 October 2021, at Langplaas,” says Maria Nkabinde, the SAPS spokesperson, “and the suspects are unknown.”

Life sentence for Mmakau murder
accused
BRITS POS – BRITS - A life sentence imprisonment was handed down to Tebogo Setlhare (37) by the North Gauteng High court on Friday, 15 October 2021 and the District Commissioner of Bojanala District 1 (Brits), Major General Modisagaarekwe Mosimanegape welcomed the sentence.
The accused was apprehended on Monday, 25 November 2019, at Mmakau village, east of Brits after being linked to the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Kgaugelo Tshwae (28). Her burnt body was found inside her vehicle in bushes on Monday, 24 November 2019 in Mapetla Section, Mmakau. Reports suggest that Tshwae failed to return home on Sunday, 24 November 2019 after a vacation at Hartbeespoortdam with friends.
Tshwae’s mother was at the Ga-Rankuwa police station to open a missing person’s case on Monday, 25 November 2019 when she
got a phone call that her daughter’s body was found in Mmakau.
“Tshwae’s body was positively identified by family members who were sadly, accompanied by the accused,” says SAPS spokesperson, Maria Nkabinde.
Following preliminary, but intensive investigations into the matter, the suspect was linked with the alleged murder after Tshwae’s bank card was found in his possession. He was arrested for kidnapping, robbery, murder, defeating the ends of justice and possession of suspected stolen property.
The accused was sentenced to an additional twelve months imprisonment for defeating the ends of justice and three months or a R600-00 fine for theft.
The District Commissioner commended the police for leaving no stone unturned in ensuring the successful conviction and strongly condemned the incident which occurred just prior to the commencement of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children and emphasised that Gender Based Violence is a national priority of the police.

BRITS POS – MOONOOI - In the early hours of Sunday morning, 17 October 2021, police at Mooinooi were contacted to investigate an alleged case of murder at Riverside section, Bapong village in the Mooinooi policing area.
Lifeless body of man found
The lifeless body of a man was found lying on the ground with stab wounds. The victim was pronounced dead by EMS. SAPS spokesperson, Maria Nkabinde confirmed that a case of murder was registered at Mooinooi police station subsequent to the above
incident that took place. “The suspect, Siphosoxolo Zide (32) handed himself over to the police on the same day, at about 09:00 and he appeared before the Brits Magistrate’s court on Tuesday, 19 October 2021, for the alleged murder,”
Nkabinde concludes.
Business robbery and attempted murder
BRITS POS – BRITS - A business owner who resides in Zone 1, Letlhabile alleges that he was asleep when woken by a window being smashed around 03:00 on Tuesday, 12 October 2021.
Three male suspects entered and held the victim at gunpoint, demanding money.
When he refused, shots were fired and one hit him in the leg. The victim then gave them the money he had and cellphones
and the suspects fled the scene.
Cases of business robbery and attempted murder were opened at SAPS Letlhabile.
BRITS POS – HEBRON – Just before close of business, three family members were working in a butchery at Matshelapata Section in Hebron, busy cleaning up, when three men entered on Friday, 15 October 2021 around 21:00
The men enquired if they could still braai meat. They were asked to check if the fire was still going and when they returned, all
of a sudden there were eight men.

were held at gunpoint with the suspects demanding money and cellphones and liquor, which were handed over. Allegedly one shot was fired inside the butchery before the suspects took off.

In ‘n ongeluk tussen twee voertuie, Saterdag, 16 Oktober 2021 op die R511, is een persoon op die toneel dood verklaar. BRITS POS – BRITS - The Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele has outlined the plans of the Department of Police to tackle crime ahead of the busy festive season.
The Minister, together with SAPS senior management launched Operation Safer Festive Season 2021/2022 in Brits, in the North West under the theme
“Country in Blue: extending our reach through blue light visibility”.
In attendance was the Premier of the North West, Mr Bushy Maape, the Deputy Minister of Police, Mr Cassel Mathale, the National Commissioner of the SAPS, the leadership of the SAPS both at national and provincial levels.
Members of the Community Policing Forum (CPF) including community patrollers, representatives of the Youth Crime Prevention Steering Committee and other key stakeholders were also in attendance.
The operations kicked off with a community engagement in Sonop, Brits where the focus was to engage residents on 17 community reported crimes affecting the area. The delegation proceeded to the Bherens taxi rank in Brits where a walk about was conducted with a view of mobilizing all to embrace the idea of active citizenry in the fight against crime and ensure 100%
compliance of the lockdown level 1 Disaster Management Regulations. The launch culminated with a formal interaction with residents of Brits at the Brits showgrounds. The safer festive season operational plan was parachuted into the showgrounds by members of the SAPS elite crime fighting Unit, The Special Task Force (STF). The plan was then handed over to the National Joint and Operational Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) Chair, Lieutenant General Fannie Masemola. The plan which consists of safer festive season operational plans for all nine provinces was then presented to the Minister of Police by National Commissioner, General Khehla John Sitole and will be rolled out nationally to ensure that residents and holiday makers are and feel safe during this period.
During his keynote address, Minister General Cele said the focus would largely be on high visibility of members at crime hotspot areas. These will include heightened visibility at tourist destinations, shopping centres, national roads as well conducting operations and patrols at all of South Africa’s border posts before, during and post the festive season. As part of the Safer Festive Season campaign, all law enforcement agencies and key stakeholders will conduct operations countrywide until 31 January 2021.
The launch of the safer festive season operations also coincided with the introduction of the Youth Crime Prevention Strategy. The Youth Crime Prevention Strategy aims to ensure that the youth are empowered and supported to become self-sufficient and become involved in crime-fighting initiatives.
According to the National Commissioner of the SAPS, General Khehla Sitole, the focus of the strategy is centred around the increase police visibility in areas where young people are most vulnerable; enhance safety awareness;
support youth development and growth; enhance communication and relationship building; create avenues for youth participation in community- policing engagements; improve investigation and convictions pertaining to the youth as victims.

BRITS POS – BRITS – Gedurende die Vroue Landbou-unie van Brits se Oktober- vergadering het die sameroeper van kuns- en handvlyt studierigting, Fia van der Merwe en haar gasvrouens ‘n baie interessante werkswinkel oor mosaïek gereël.
Annelie Coetzer, een van die VLU se lede en aanbieder van kunsklasse by Paperworld, net buite Brits, het met haar kennis en inspirasie die vroue ingelig oor die oorsprong van mosaïek en die fyner kunsies daaraan.

BRITS POS – BRITS - Die without of Ilex Mitis kom algemeen in die Magaliesberg voor in immergroen bosveld, altyd naby water en groei meestal in die skadu. Sy verspreiding is van Ethiopië in die noorde tot die Wes-Kaap in die suide.
“Dis ‘n immergroen boom wat tot 30m hoog kan word met ‘n digte ronderige kroon ,” vertel Henry Francis, ons plaaslike boomkenner en sekretaris van die Pilanesbergtak van die dendrologiese
vereniging van SA. “Sy mees diagnostiese kenmerke is sy gladde grys stam met lentiselle. Die enkelvoudige afwisselende blare is donkergroen met die hoofaar wat diep gegroef is aan die bokant, maar verhewe
aan die onderkant.
Die blaarsteel is meestal perserig van kleur en is tot 10mm
lank. Sy vruggie is ‘n ronderige vlesige bessie wat blinkrooi is wanneer ryp. Die hout is wit, redelik hard en taamlik swaar.
“Swartoogtiptolle, houtkappers, loeries, spreeus en ander vrugtevretende voëls is lief vir die boom se vruggies. Sy hout word gebruik vir die maak van meubels, veral tafels en stoele. Die vruggies is eetbaar met ‘n soeterige smaak en stukkies bas kan gekou word as purgeermiddel.” Die without is ‘n goeie boom om in jou tuin te plant en vertoon mooi met sy immergroen
digte kroon en ligte stam. Hy lok insekte
met sy roomkleurige, soetgeurige blomme
en ook ‘n verskeidenheid vrugtevretende
voëls. Die wortelstelsel is nie agressief
nie en die boom het ‘n vinnige groeitempo

BRITS POS – BRITS – Die leerders van Laerskool Elandskraal het onlangs puik gevaar in hulle onderskeie redenaar-kompetisies.
Aldo van den Heever van Laerskool Brits het 16 Oktober 2021 aan die Interclub Tournament skopboks-kompetisie deelgeneem en drie medaljes verower: skopboksreeks (goud), ring geveg (silwer) en ‘n brons medalje vir wapengeveg.

Elrike du Plessis, ‘n knap swemmer van Laerskool Brits, het die
naweek aan die Noordwes Swem- kampioenskappe, in Sasolburg deelgeneem en puik presteer. Sy het twee goue medaljes in die 50m en 200m Borsslag, asook silwer medaljes in die 200m Vryslag en 50m Rugslag losgeswem.

Blitsbok kom kuier
BRITS POS – MOOINOOI – Die Blitsbok sewesrugbyspeler, Shaun Williams (23), wat pas van die HSBC Vancouver Sewesreeks in Kanada teruggekeer het waar hy sy buiging gemaak het, het verlede Donderdag by sy alma mater, Laerskool Elandskraal ingeloer.
Shaun vertel dat dit vir hom heerlik was om sy oud-onderwysers weer te kon sien. Hy kon nie wag om weer agter sy graad 1-bank in te skuif en ook skouers met sy voormalige hoof, Gerrie Pretorius en Luiperds-rugbyafrigter, Okkie van Staden, wat nou adjunkhoof by Elies is, te kon skuur nie.
Elies is baie trots op jou Shaun, bly die nederige, passievolle mens wat almal leer liefkry het.
Die leerders was baie opgewonde om by die
rugbyblits, Shaun Williams op die pawiljoen te kon sit.
Blitsbok, Shaun Williams, het verlede week ‘n vinnige draai by sy alma mater, Laerskool Elandskraal gemaak. Dit was vir hom groot pret om agter sy graad 1-bank te kon inskuif.
Shaun saam met sy voormalige skoolhoof, Gerrie Pretorius en Luiperds- rugbyafrigter, Okkie van Staden. ‘n Eerstespan Elies-rugbytrui is aan hom oorhandig.
Alyssi Goosen (12), ‘n kranige gholfspeler van Laerskool Elandskraal het Dinsdag gekwalifiseer om aan die finale Noordwes-skole gholfproewe deel te neem. Die proewe word volgende week by die Magaliesparkgholfbaan buite Hartbeespoort gehou.

Krieketspelers op die wenpad
BRITS POS – BRITS – Die krieketspelers van Brits Krieketklub het die naweek uitstekende krieket gespeel en drie van die vyf spanne het koning gekraai.
Die drie senior spanne het teen Defence van Pretoria gespeel, terwyl die twee junior spanne teen Irene Villagers kragte gemeet het.
Uitslae: 1ste span wen met 39 lopies, 2de span wen met 16 lopies en die o.11’s wen met 78 lopies.
