NOORDWESTER – LICHTENBURG – Goeie nuus vir kankerpasiënte is dat Onkoloeë weer die Lichtenburg Kankerkliniek gaan besoek.

Drs. Arno Pretorius en Matthys Strydom van Rustenburg is twee Onkoloeë wat uit hul pad sal gaan vir Lichtenburg en omgewing se pasiënte en sal hul bystaan vanaf Woensdag, 26 Augustus 2020. Die twee kundiges praktiseer tans voltyds as kliniese Onkoloeë in Rustenburg en gaan elke tweede week hul tyd so inruim om ons omgewing se kankerpasiënte by die Lichtenburg Kankerkliniek te besoek.

Dr. Arno Pretorius het sy voorgraadse studies in 1998 aan die Universiteit van die Vrystaat voltooi en sy spesialisasie in Onkologie voltooi in 2006.

Hy werk sedert 2007 in sy privaat praktyk in Rustenburg.

Dr. Matthys Strydom het sy voorgraadse studies in 1998 aan die Universiteit van

Pretoria voltooi en sy nagraadse studie in Onkologie aan die Universiteit van die Vrystaat in 2006. Hy het tot 2012 as

‘n konsultant gewerk by die Departement Onkologie in Bloemfontein waarna hy by

‘n privaatpraktyk in Rustenburg aangesluit het.

Nuwe pasiënte en ook pasiënte wat hul opvolg-afsprake wil doen by die Lichtenburg Kankerkliniek, is baie welkom. U hoef nie meer ver te ry nie.

NOORDWESTER – LICHTENBURG – A landmark agreement between Cipla South Africa and Gilead Sciences Inc has led to a manufacturing and distribution license that will have the company producing an effective COVID-19 antiviral medicine locally.

Latest COVID-19 treatment drug available in SA

Based upon a study funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for remdesivir was first issued by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in May 2020. The NIAID study showed that the drug reduced recovery times for hospitalised patients with COVID-19.

Countries such as Japan, India and Singapore also approved the use of the drug and South Africa is among 127 countries that Cipla is now manufacturing the drug for. The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) has also given the drug the go-ahead. According to Cipla SA CEO Paul Miller, the company’s focus is ensuring

patients have an affordable medication to rely on during the pandemic.

with SAHPRA to ensure access for all.

NOORDWESTER – BIESIESVLEI – On Monday ,10 August 2020 police in Biesiesvlei conducted a special operation to ensure that all inhabitants abide by the law.

Disruptions instigated by councillors ?

According to a reliable source, a

councillor from ward 9, Itsoseng, informed youth throughout the service area of Ditsobotla Local Municipality over the long weekend that there are vacancies at the municipality and that they were to submit their details and copies of Identity documents on 11 August 2020

at the municipal offices early in the morning. This lead to disruptive actions where the Mahikeng POP (Public order policing) unit had to attend the scene to disperse the crowd.

is that the main instigator for these actions are the councillor of Ward 9. It is alleged that another three councillors may also be involved.

According to information, the instigators mission are to unseat the current Mayor of Ditsobotla Local Municipality, Councillor Buthelezi, as well as the current Municipal Manager, Mr Metswamere. It seems that the councillors have their aim at securing those positions for themselves. It is no secret that the councillor of Ward 9 had, in the past, had issues with the mayoral and municipal positions.

It is also reported that the unemployed youth were allegedly promised to be employed at the municipality should they support the unseatment attempt made.

It is further alleged that in order to have the services of the current security company terminated and to appoint the new company the opposition root for, the need exist for the mayor and municipal manager to be replaced.

On Wednesday at about 13:15 the police dispersed the crowd with rubber bullets after they threw stones at them.

At the time the Noordwester was going to press, there were no sign of the demonstrators on the streets.

On the photos one can see the unemployed youth and members of the community gathering outside the Ditsobotla Municipality building on 11 and 12 August. The police fired rubber bullets at the demonstrators on Wednesday afternoon after they threw stones at security guards and the police. After the culprits ran away, police stayed on the scene to

The operation proceeded to Itekeng location at the small businesses, thus at two tuckshops the police found the dealers busy with the sale of tobacco, cigarettes, snuff and dagga. All the offenders were arrested for contravention of regulation 48 (2) read with 45 (1) of the Disaster Management Act. Moreover dozens of cartons of cigarettes in grosses including dagga and snuff were confiscated to the value of R26800-00. The Station Commander Captain JP Wallis expressed his gratitude and applauded his members for a job well done. He further said “the police in Biesiesvlei will continue to fight criminal tendencies with integrity and diligence”. Members of the community are once again requested to cooperate with the police in reporting crime such as sale of tobacco, tobacco related products, cigarettes and liquor as they were banned

during COVID-19 stage 3. Therefore the police is appealing to the public not to indulge or partake in malicious and criminal activities.

NOORDWESTER – LICHTENBURG – Toekomsvonk het die volgende statistiek van aanvalle en moorde op plase bekend gemaak.

Aan die einde van Julie 2020 het die statistieke as volg gelyk: In Julie 2020 was daar 58 plaasaanvalle en is 9 boere vermoor. Die oudste slagoffer van ‘n plaasaanval sover in 2020 was 91 jaar oud en die jongste was 1 jaar oud.

Gedurende hierdie maand het die meeste aanvalle op Woensdae en Donderdae plaasgevind. Verder dui die statistieke aan dat die meeste aanvalle (19) tussen 24:00 en 06:00 in die oggend plaasvind, gevolg deur 18:00 tot 23:00 (17 aanvalle).

In totaal is daar reeds 34 boere in 2020

vermoor. Vergelykend (Januarie – Julie) was daar 53 boere in 2017 vermoor, 43 in 2018 en 29 in 2019. In totaal was daar reeds 239 plaasaanvalle in 2020. In dieselfde tyd gedurende 2017 was daar 258, in 2018 was daar 286 en in 2019 was daar 260 aanvalle.

Dit is duidelik dat plaasaanvalle nie deur individue uitgevoer word nie, maar deur bendes. In Julie was die gemiddelde hoeveelheid aanvallers 3 en vir 2020 is dit 4 per voorval. Die gemiddelde ouderdom hierdie maand van slagoffers van plaasaanvalle- en moorde is 52.

NOORDWESTER – LICHTENBURG – Lede van die publiek wat met selfverdediging op misdaad reageer is die afgelope tyd al meer in die nuus. Vroeër vanjaar het Afriforum op sy mediakonferensie teen plaasmoorde dieselfde tendens uitgewys.

Ian Cameron, destydse hoof van gemeenskapsveiligheid, het opgemerk dat slagoffers van plaasaanvalle toenemend hul aanvallers teenstaan en hulle soms selfs afweer met selfverdediging. Cameron het genoem dat hierdie syfer uiters bemoedigend is en dat mense die belang van selfverdediging moet verstaan.

Gegewe Suid-Afrika se misdaadstatistieke is dit nodig dat burgers nie net vertroud moet raak met die idee van selfverdediging nie, maar ook met die toepassing daarvan.

Ons misdaadsyfers en die gepaardgaande ondoeltreffendheid waarmee die polisie dit hanteer, noodsaak burgers om na hulself om te sien. Met sowat 58 mense wat elke dag in Suid-Afrika vermoor word, het ons ook die negende hoogste moordkoers ter wêreld.

Ten spyte van ons misdaadstatistieke het ons egter nie ‘n ooreenstemmende wapenkultuur nie. Ondanks ons hoë moordkoers en

algemene misdaadvlakke besit minder as tien burgers uit elke 100 mense in ons land

‘n vuurwapen. Suid-Afrika het 5,3 miljoen wapens in burgerlike besit met slegs 3 miljoen daarvan in wettige besit. Hierdie syfers maak burgers nie net meer weerloos nie, maar kriminele ook meer weerbaar.

Byna die helfte van die wapens in burgerlike besit is onwettig. Dit is waarskynlik veilig om te aanvaar dat die meerderheid hiervan in kriminele se besit is.

Dit is weens streng regulering en ‘n onvriendelike regering veral moeilik om in ons land op ‘n wettige wyse ‘n vuurwapen te bekom en te besit.

Regulering maak dit moeiliker as nodig vir wetsgehoorsame burgers om vuurwapens te bekom vir selfverdediging.

Die regering se negatiewe retoriek teenoor wapenbesit skep verder ‘n negatiewe wapenkultuur in die land.

The Itsoseng Police recently held roadblocks to inform motorists about roadsafety, sanitizing of passengers, gender based violence and shared information about the dangerous weapons act. This operation was welcomed by the public and the community were happy to receive the information.

NOORDWESTER – MMABATHO – Die 21-jarige veroordeelde moordenaar, Xander Bylsma is verlede Vrydag tot twee keer lewenslank

gevonnis vir die moord op sy voormalige vriendin, Shanelle Hough, en haar boesemvriendin, Marna Engelbrecht. Hy is ook onbevoeg verklaar om ‘n vuurwapen te besit.

Regter Donald Hendricks, het die moorde op Hough en Engelbrecht verlede Vrydagoggend in die hooggeregshof in Mmabatho in Noordwes as

‘n dubbelmoord en geslagsgebaseerde geweld bestempel. Hy het gedurende vonnisoplegging daarop gewys dat die samelewing ‘n herhaalde oproep

teen geslagsgbaseerde geweld doen.

“Die enigste manier om geslagsgebaseerde geweld stop te sit, is om strenger vonnisse op te lê. Wat hierdie moorde grusaam maak, is die feit dat dit twee jong meisies was.

Jou dade was skandelik en afstootlik. Jy het geen respek vir die meisies getoon nie,” het hy gesê.

Die vonnisoplegging spruit voort uit die moorde van Hough (17) en Engelbrecht (16) wat gedurende die nag van 25 en 26 Mei 2018 in die hoërskoolkoshuis op Stella vermoor is. Hough se liggaam is die oggend van 26 Mei aangetref waar sy met ‘n tou om die nek aan ‘n trapreling gehang het. Engelbrecht se liggaam is in ‘n badkamer met ‘n handsaklus om haar nek aangetref.

Regter Hendricks het in sy uitspraak in Februarie bevind dat Hough se moord haarfyn beplan was. Hy het egter nie beplan om Marna die betrokke aand te vermoor nie. “Marna was jou kleinniggie en jy was veronderstel om haar te beskerm en lief te hê. Jy het egter versuim om dit te doen. Onskuldige mense word gereeld seergemaak deur mense wat veronderstel is om hul ondersteuningstelsel te wees,” het Hendricks gesê.

Noordwester - CARLETONVILLE - Brad Binder, a ‘laaitie’ from just around the corner, Carletonville, stunned the motorcycle racing world the past weekend when he became the first South African to win a premier class world championship race

by claiming victory in the Czech MotoGP at Brno on Sunday.

The win was also the first for the Red Bull KTM Factory Team in the sport’s premier class. In a country desperate for some good news, the might of sport showed that it could unite the country again, albeit briefly. Social media lit up with happy messages sharing in Binder’s exploits and even President Cyril Ramaphosa did not let a good public relations opportunity go to waste. “Brad Binder made all South Africans proud today with his historic victory,” Ramaphosa said in a statement released shortly after Binder crossed the chequered flag 5.2 seconds ahead of Italian Yamaha rider Franco Morbidelli. Binder (24) was introduced to the sport through his father Trevor.

He has made steady progress since competing in the 2011 Red Bull Rookies Cup, which opened the door to 125cc racing the following year.

Binder’s natural speed and obvious talent caught the eye of Finnish enthusiast Aki Ajo, who owned a team called Ajo Motorsport. Ajo was famous for spotting talent such as Marc Marquez, who rode for him in 2010. Binder was part of Ajo’s stable from 2015 to 2019 – his last year in Moto2 – in a team that was a satellite unit under the KTM banner.

In 2020 Binder was elevated to the Red Bull KTM Factory Team after Frenchman Johann Zarco left the organisation at the end of last season.
