Nie minder nie as 51 dogters het verlede week tydens die Vroue Landbou-unie Brits-tak se Dogtersdae behoorlik gehekel, gebrei, gebak én baljaar. Die vroue van die VLU het hul kennis en vaardighede van naaldwerk, handvlyt en kookkuns met die dogters gedeel en dit was ‘n groot sukses. In ‘n wêreld waar tegnologie hoogty vier, was dit wonderlik om die dogters se “uitgehongerde” belangstelling in tradisionele hand- en huisvlyt-aktiwiteite te sien. “Dit was voorwaar ‘n voorreg om ons kundigheid met die jonger geslag te kon deel,” sê Neeltje Louw, voorsitter van Brits VLU.

BRITS POS – BRITS – Buitengewone mense doen buitengewone dinge en om vir die Suid-Afrikaanse Presisie Vliegspan te vlieg, is reeds ‘n groot prestasie, maar om dit met net een hand te doen, maak Ron Stirk (73) se prestasie voorwaar buitengewoon.
Wêreldklas vlieënier met net een hand
Presiesievlieg is net soos die naam sê, presiese vliegvernuf waar die vlieënier solo vlieg en die roete sonder enige lugvaart sakrekenaars of ander tegnologiese toerusting moet bereken.
Tydens die Suid-Afrikaans Presisie Vliegkampioenskappe, wat onlangs by Brits Vliegklub plaasgevind het, het Ron uitstekend presteer en ‘n eerste plek in die landingsafdeling en ‘n algehele tweede plek verwerf.
Ron, ‘n bekende sakeman van Brits, het 15 jaar gelede sy dominate regtervoorarm in ‘n motorongeluk verloor.
“Dit was aanvanklik ‘n aanpassing, maar ek het nie laat dit my passie vir die lewe én om te vlieg, demp nie. Soos met alles in die lewe moet ‘n mens die beste van dit maak wat jy het,” sê Ron.
Ron het 30 jaar gelede sy vlieglisensie gekry. Hy spog met 2 200 vliegure as privaat vlieënier. Voorwaar indrukwekkend gedagtig daaraan dat hy die helfte van die tyd met net een hand gevlieg het.
Een van sy groot uitdagings was om met sy linkerhand te leer skryf. “Nou na meer as 10 jaar wat ek links skryf, skryf ek amper so mooi soos wat ek met die regterhand geskryf het,” vertel hy met ‘n ondeunde glinster in die oog.
Na afloop van die SA-kampioenskappe het hy gekwalifiseer om aan die Wêreld Presisie Vliegkampioenskappe deel te neem.
Die Wêreld Presisie Vliegkampioenskappe vind vanjaar in Frankryk plaas. Omdat hy ook gekies is om Suid-Afrika tydens die Wêreld Rally Vliegkampioenskappe, wat in Suid-Afrika plaasvind, te verteenwoordig, het hy besluit om nie vanjaar Frankryk toe te gaan nie.
*Presisievlieg bestaan uit drie afsonderlike dissiplines, wat elkeen afsonderlik beoordeel word en wat die deelnemer se uiteindelike telling sal beïnvloed.
Eerstens is daar vlugbeplanning en die roete (afstand, grondspoed, tyd en rigting) word self deur die vlieënier uitgewerk. Geen tegnologie word gebruik nie.
Die tweede afdeling is ‘n vliegtoets. Die vlieënier moet teen ‘n aangewese spoed langs die baan vlieg en moet binne die sekonde akkuraat wees. Vlieëniers moet ook foto’s en grondmerkers langs die roete identifiseer. Dit
moet op ‘n kaart gemerk word.
Laastens is daar die landingsgedeelte waar die vlieënier vier landings vanaf 1 000 voet windaf moet uitvoer. Akkuraatheid is van kardinale belang – FAI World Air Sport Federation.
Die toekennings wat Ron Stirk tydens die onlangse presisie vliegkampioenskappe verwerf het.

Lodewyk Fourie (64), inwoner van Brits, is Saterdag 2 Julie oorlede. Sy bedroefde lewensmaat van 17 jaar, Annatjie Volschenk sê dit was so skielik, daar was nie kans om te groet nie. Sy gedenkdiens het reeds 8 Julie vanuit die NG Kerk Krokodilrivier plaasgevind. Dr Christiaan Gericke het die diens gelei.

BRITS POS – BRITS - The opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) reported that parliament is currently processing its Fuel Price Deregulation Bill, with the proposed law aimed at significantly lowering the cost of petrol in the country.
The bill aims to amend the existing Petroleum Products Act, which gives the government the power to prescribe the price of petroleum products. The primary objective of the Bill is to deregulate the fuel sector to increase competition in fuel price-setting at both the wholesale and retail level, which will result in lower petrol prices for consumers, as retailers compete to win customers based on price levels and to allow for businesses to implement creative methods of trading which may result in reduced petroleum prices.
By ending the additional taxes on fuel, and deregulating the fuel price, the DA estimates that it can lower the price at the pumps by up to R9 a litre then costing about R17.50 per litre.
Kevin Mileham (DA) said that the bill will also give increased powers to the Competition Commission, which will be tasked with keeping a close eye on the fuel price market. Should any anti-competitive practices be determined, swift investigation and remedial action could follow.

waarnemende munisipale bestuurder
VF PLUS KAP MADIBENG PLAASLIKE MUNISIPALITEIT
BRITS POS – BRITS - Die VF Plus in die Madibeng-plaaslike munisipaliteit (Brits, Hartbeespoort en Mooinooi), het die speaker in die munisipaleraad, me. Ditshego Mbezi, in ʼn skrywe daarop gewys dat die aanstelling van me. Motlalekgomo Mmope as waarnemende munisipale bestuurder (MM) om verskeie redes onreëlmatig is.
Hierdie skrywe volg op ʼn chaotiese munisipale raadsvergadering op Vrydag, 8 Julie, waar Mbezi daarop aangedring het dat Mmope in die pos aangestel word.
Die VF Plus het tydens die vergadering daarop gewys dat:
-me. Mmope nie gekwalifiseer is vir die pos nie en dat haar aanstelling in stryd met die bepalings van die toepaslike munisipale wetgewing sal wees;
-Dit het tydens die vergadering aan die lig gekom dat Noordwes se LUR vir samewerkende regering, tradisionele sake en behuising, Lenah Miga, die munisipaliteit reeds in Mei skriftelik ingelig het dat me.
Mmope nie vir die pos kwalifiseer nie;
Die VF Plus het hierop ʼn voorstel in die raad ingedien om ʼn besluit te aanvaar dat die LUR versoek word om ʼn geskikte persoon vir ʼn interim-tydperk na die munispaliteit te sekondeer. Dit sou die geleentheid bied om ʼn behoorlike proses met die aanstelling te volg.
Die burgemeester, mnr. Douglas Maimane, het die VF Plus se voorstel gesteun, maar Mbezi het geweier om ʼn stemming oor die kwessie toe te laat.
Die VF Plus en die meerderheid van die raadslede het hierop die vergadering verlaat, waarna Mbezi sonder die vereiste kworum, ʼn besluit genoteer het om die aanstelling van Mmope te bekragtig.
Die optrede van Mbezi in die raadsvergadering was blatant in stryd met die munisipale raad se ordereëls, sowel as verskeie bepalings van munisipale wetgewing. Dit is skandelik dat ANC-politici voortgaan om reëls, regulasies en wetgewing te ignoreer en te oortree wanneer dit nie hul persoonlike belange dien nie. Dit versterk ʼn kultuur van wetteloosheid en die verval van waardes in munisipaliteite landwyd.
Die VF Plus sal voortgaan om te stry teen die onregmatige aanstelling van onbevoegde amptenare in plaaslike regering en sal diegene wat hulle skuldig maak aan wanpraktyke, verantwoordbaar hou.
Die inwoners van Madibeng verdien beter as die ANC.

Die hof het beslis dat Tshwane op Madibeng se bankrekeninge beslag kan lê om ʼn bedrag van R258 miljoen te verhaal wat lank reeds vir waterverskaffing aan die metro verskuldig is.
Madibeng het nie die aansoek teengestaan nie, nadat Madibeng by herhaling in gebreke gebly om ooreenkomste vir die afbetaling van die skuld aan die metro na te kom.
Die ANC-beheerde munisipaliteit is reeds vir jare berug vir swak dienslewering, wanbestuur, korrupsie en kaderontplooiing. Selfs ingryp- pogings van die provinsiale en nasionale regerings kon die situasie nie beredder nie.
Madibeng is ʼn teksboekvoorbeeld van die algemene verval wat ANC-beheer in munisipaliteite landwyd teweeg gebring het.
Dié munisipaliteit bedien ʼn omgewing wat een van die spilpunte van Noordwes se
provinsiale ekonomie is. Groot werkgewers in die mynbou-, landbou- en industriële sektore is in die gebied teenwoordig.
Die algehele minagting vir die belange van die plaaslike inwoners wat die ANC-bestuur in hierdie munisipaliteit openbaar, word weereens beklemtoon deur die jongste gebeure.
Die VF Plus is in die proses om met die Noordwes-premier, mnr. Bushy Maape en die provinsiale tesourie in verbinding te tree met versoeke tot dringende ingryping by die munisipaliteit.
Daar kan nie toegelaat word dat hierdie gemeenskap uitgelewer word aan die katastrofiese gevolge van die optrede van die ANC in Madibeng nie. Die inwoners van Brits, Hartbeespoort en Mooinooi verdien beter as die ANC.

Terugvoer van Madibeng rakende die beslagleggingsbevel op sy bankrekenings wat aan Tswane munisipaliteit in die hooggeregshof toegestaan is, is Woensdag ontvang:
Daarvolgens is Madibeng tans in gesprek met die Tshwane-munisipaliteit op politiese- en administratiewe-vlak.
Die burgemeester van Madibeng, rdl Douglas Maimane glo dat die probleem juis deur die partye se inter-regeringverhoudings opgelos sal word. Hy skryf die uitstaande skuld toe aan Madibeng se swak prestasie van invordering van uitstaande
rekeninggelde in Kgabalatsane, Hebron, Klipgat, Itsoseng en Mmakau, die areas waaraan Tshwane-munisipaliteit water voorsien en volgens hom het hulle reeds
gesprekke met die inwoners om hulle agterstallige rekenings te betaal.
Die burgemeester het niks van verantwoordbaarheid onder sy leierskap van die amptenary gesê nie.
Oor die afgelope paar maande het die VTM se Pionierswerf verskeie uitbreidings gemaak en een van die mees opwindende toevoegings tot die werf is die nuwe
“troetelwerf”.
Wat begin het met ’n paar hoenders is vandag al ’n spog plaaswerf met hoenders, dwergbokkies, makoue, kalkoene en twee klein speenvarkies.
“Kom, maak ’n draai by die pionierswerf en leer van Trekkerlewe en kom kyk hoe dié plaasdiertjies versorg word,” nooi Esté Cilliers, bestuurder van pionieraktiwiteite by die VTM.
Renier Roets, eienaar van Volmoed Boerdery in Brits het die afgelope week ook twee kalkoene, twee spekvet speenvarkies en drie makoue aan die VTM geskenk.
Hy vertel dat dit ’n groot voorreg vir hom was om te kon bydra tot die monument en die uitbreiding en beskerming van ons ryk kultuurerfenis, wat natuurlik boerdery insluit.
“Dit doen my as boer se hart goed om te sien dat daar nog kinders is wat wel belang
stel in ons geskiedenis, ons tradisies én die natuur,” verduidelik Renier. “Ek hoop dié diere sal vir baie kinders en grootmense vreugde bring en hulle inspireer om meer van die plaaslewe en natuurbewaring te leer.
Die VTM-personeel wil graag die publiek en ondersteuners van die monument uitnooi om deel te neem aan die Pionierswerf-pret en hulle te help om name te kry vir die nuwe diere.
“Ons hoenders, Gezina, Lenie en Chris- die-Haan de Wet was die eerste toevoeging tot die familie,” vertel Esté Cilliers. “Ons het besluit om die twee dwergbokkies wat ons verlede week verwelkom het, Dirkie en Basjan te doop, maar ons het ook besef ons wil graag hê die ondersteuners van die VTM moet deel hê aan die pret, en so is besluit om mense uit te nooi om ons te help om die nuwe diere – twee kalkoene (’n mannetjie en
’n wyfie), twee varkies (’n beer en ’n sog) en drie makoue (twee wyfies en ’n mannetjie) name te gee.

BRITS POS – BRITS – A cellphone outlet in Spoorweg Street, Brits was the target for a business robbery on Sunday, 10 July around 11:00.
The supervisor was assisting a client paying for his goods when a male entered the shop and stood at the next till point.
When the customer left, the male held her at gunpoint. She made a break for the office and locked the door when she realised that another male suspect had entered the shop.
The suspects gained access to the till points and fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash looted from the tills.
No shots were fired and no one injured.
A case of business robbery was registered at Brits police station.
According to Lt.Col. Amanda Funani, SAPS Northwest spokesperson no arrests have been made, but members of the community who can assist the police in finding the suspects, can call Lt.Col. Charmaine Jenner at 012 381 6036 at Brits police station.

Another business robbery at

The suspects’ court appearance stems from their arrest on Thursday, 7 July, in Tladistad village near Makapanstad.
“According to information, two of the six suspects entered the store and forced the manager and security guard to the manager’s office where they demanded the social grants money,” says Colonel Amanda Funani, SAPS North West spokesperson. “Upon failing to get the money, they
took money from the tills.
In the process, a female and unarmed police official who was not aware of the robbery in progress, entered the store and the suspects demanded her firearm.”
Allegedly, one of the suspects who was waiting in one of the getaway cars, went to a marked police vehicle and held the police officer at gunpoint, demanding a firearm and the car keys from the police officer who
was instructed to get out of the vehicle and forced to get inside the shop. The suspects then fled from the scene in a Volkswagen Polo and a Blue BMW.
The two police officers called for backup leading to a car chase and subsequent exchange of fire between the suspects and the police.
“The suspects were eventually arrested at Tladistad village after their vehicles were stopped,” Colonel
Funani concludes. Some of the suspects needed medical treatment due to their injuries sustained and were under police guard at the hospital, but all were treated and detained.
The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena congratulated the police in Platinum Sub-District 1 for their cooperation and ascertaining that the suspects are brought to book.

When police arrived at the scene, they were told to leave, but when SAPS backup members arrived, the crowd dispersed and police found a half-naked male that was beaten up.
His girlfriend told police that community members came to the house and searched it and allegedly found copper cables. They dragged the victim into the street assaulting him with anything they could lay their hands on.
An ambulance was called and the victim
(58) was taken to Brits Provincial Hospital where he was declared deceased upon arrival.
A murder case was registered at Mooinooi police station. “No arrests have at this stage been made, but the police investigation is ongoing”, says Lt.Col. Amanda Funani, SAPS Northwest spokesperson.

BRITS POS – BEDWANG - Little did thieves know that they were leaving a trail that would lead police to the exact spot where they were unloading their stolen goods and two thugs were arrested on the spot.
The security guard (25) at Khutsong Middle School was on duty on Sunday, 10 July around 03:00 when he noticed three men loading bags of cement onto a bakkie.
He was unable to open the burglar door. The suspects confronted the guard, and threatened to shoot him and he was assaulted. They then left the school premises and the guard managed to open the security door to get assistance.
When police arrived, they noted that the thugs left a trail of cement, probably from a damaged cement bag that led them to the exact spot in Lebotloane where some of their loot was off-loaded.
Two suspects were arrested.
A case of business robbery was registered at Bedwang police station. The third suspects was arrested.
According to Lt.Col. Amanda Funani, SAPS Northwest spokesperson, they all appeared at Moretele Magistrates Court on Monday, 11 July. They are Jappie Ramotho (19), Errens Ngobeni (36) and Lucas Tshiliga (38).

Die buurtwag en PPS Monitering en Reaksie is na die toneel ontplooi en een verdagte is aangekeer, terwyl
’n ander verdagte gevlug het. Mooinooi-SAPD het die verdagte op die toneel in hegtenis geneem en beslag op die gereedskap wat gebruik is om die misdaad te pleeg, gelê. “Dit is fantasties om eerstehands te aanskou hoe AfriForum se Brits-buurtwag, PPS Monitering en Reaksie en die SAPD saamwerk om misdaad te bekamp.

Climate-proof roads a priority
BRITS POS – BRITS – Bakwena manages and operates two vital stretches of the N1 and N4 - from Tshwane to Bela Bela, north towards Zimbabwe/Zambia and linking Gauteng westwards, through Rustenburg and Zeerust, to the Botswana Border.
These are economic arteries that are key to the mining, agriculture and tourism sectors in South Africa.
Therefore, the Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire strives to make the Bakwena N1N4 toll road more resilient to climate stress factors such as flooding and extreme temperatures which is primarily achieved through comprehensive maintenance. If this is not done in a planned and pro-active manner the climate will continue to cause substantial disruptions to transport networks and lead to soaring costs for future repairs and rehabilitation of vital road arteries. Most of the major storm water and bridge infrastructure on the Bakwena N1N4 network are
designed and built to withstand 100-year flood conditions. When heavy rain does occur in the region all the rivers that cross the Bakwena route are monitored closely.
“There is a strong emphasis on routine and preventive maintenance of the 385km of road surface on the network, as well as the road verges, fencing and vegetation,” Solomon Kganyago, Bakwena’s Chief Operating Officer says. “Inspections to the storm water infrastructure and road surfaces are conducted regularly to identify defects and repairs are made in terms of performance specifications.
Early and preventive action save both money and lives in the long-run,” Kganyago concludes.

Die groep verkenners saam met hul offisiere het van Slaghoek na Klipkamp, wat ‘n 10km trek is, langs vleilande, die Olifantsrivier en deur die broodboomwoud gestap. Middagete is by ‘n waterval geniet, terwyl Niconette du Toit meer vertel het hoe bome geïdentifiseer word.
Die aand se oorslaap by Klipkamp was nie so koud soos voorspel was nie en die Verkenners het elkeen hul eie kos voorberei.
Die volgende dag het hulle die lang pad met die God’s Window-roete terug na Slaghoek aangedurf.
Die uitdagende roete is telkens met die
mooiste uitsigte van die vallei en rivier na benede beloon.
Nog 10km verder het hul veilig terug by hul bestemming aangekom vir die laaste aand van vuurmaak, kos voorberei en om die pragtige bome in die omgewing te identifiseer.
Die staproete is op ‘n hoë noot afgesluit toe die veldgids hulle na ‘n uitkykpunt geneem het, vanwaar hulle deur ‘n asemrowende
sonsondergang betower is – sonder twyfel ‘n onvergeetlike ervaring! Die Voortrekkers is

Die groep Verkenners van Koersvas Voortrekker Kommando saam met hul offisiere tydens ‘n opwindende staproete by Kingdom Hiking Trails, KwaMhlanga.
Die 20km roete was baie uitdagend, maar die stappers is telkens met die mooiste natuurskoon bekroon. Ankia Burger, Gerdian Wolmarans, Berné Burger, Ansonet van der Westhuizen en Brendon van Tonder neem ‘n vinnige blaaskans.

Brits se vroue A-span was ligawenners van die Noordwes-Oos Distrik asook naaswenners by die Suid-Afrikaanse klub- kampioenskappe Volgens die voorsitter van die klub, Charmaine Kruger is dié vrouespan ‘n gedugte span wat al die afgelope agt jaar ‘n pad saam stap. “Hulle is ons klub se trots en het gedurende dié tyd telkens die silwer en goue medaljes, tydens die SA klub-kampioenskappe, huis toe gebring,” sê Charmaine. “Verder is daar
10 spelers van die span in die NoordWes- Oos vroue-A-span opgeneem.”
Brits se mans A-span is ook ‘n span om mee rekening te hou. Hulle was die ligawenners van die Noordwes-Oos Distrik en algeheel derde by die Suid- Afrikaanse Klub-kampioenskappe.
