Qualified candidates can carry out scientific research work in the departments of the Faculty to obtain a doctorate in philosophy (Ph.D.). Special principles of selection for enrollment in the second and higher years of undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Architecture and Planning of the University General principles of selection for enrollment in postgraduate studies.

UNIVERSITY GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF SELECTION FOR ENTRY TO SECOND AND LATER YEARS OF UNDERGRADUATE COURSES

Third Year Bachelor of Town and Regional Planning An applicant who

Institute of British Architects or, by passing an examination at an institution other than the Royal Institute of British Architects and obtaining other required qualifications, has become eligible for exemption from the Royal Institute of British Architects from the said examination, may be admitted to the Fourth Year of the Architectural Course . In some cases, candidates who do not meet the specified university entry requirements may be considered for tertiary places.

Methods of satisfying University Entrance Requirements

In addition to the requirements set out in 3.4.2 above, the University Faculties and Schools impose various restrictions on the choice of approved Group 1 subjects, in which Grade D or above must be passed in addition to Group 1 English or the Test in English, available before 1981, for candidates twenty-one years of age or older. For these applicants, a score is compiled on the following general basis: add up the marks of the best four subjects and then add ten percent of the marks obtained in another approved subject in which the applicant has obtained at least 40 points, but only up to a maximum of four such subjects.

List of 1982 Group 1 Subjects approved for University Entrance Purposes

Prerequisites: Group 1 Chemistry and one of Group 1 Physics, Group 1 Biology or a branch of Group 1 Mathematics must be included in the best four. Prerequisites: group 1 English, Group 1 Chemistry and ONE OF Group 1 Physics, a branch of Group 1 Mathematics or Group 1 Biology.

DEGREE COURSES

Results of examinations in all subjects will be published by the Student Records Office after completion of the examinations in the fourth term. Advice on the content of the assignment must be obtained from lecturers and tutors in the relevant subject area.

ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

A person admitted to candidacy for a degree before January 1, 1981, may complete the course under the regulations in force on that date.

705-607 MASTER OF ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES BY COURSEWORK

Candidates should then obtain an application form from the department of the faculty and submit it by October 31 of the year in which they wish to apply. Applicants will be notified by January 31 of the following year whether their application has been successful or whether preliminary studies will be required.

The selection of applicants for candidacy to the degree will be undertaken by the Academic Committee of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning.

OF MASTER OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE

For the purpose of § 1, subsection of these regulations, the faculty may b, prescribe preliminary courses of study and tests which must be completed to the faculty's satisfaction by a person applying for admission to the Master's program in accordance with the provisions of this paragraph. Every such candidate shall, within the time fixed by the Faculty, submit for examination a thesis based on the work done by that candidate during the approved course.

A graduate with a bachelor's degree in Urban and Regional Planning (Old Regulation) or its recognized equivalent will continue studies in the MUP Pre-Course for a period of one year and will pass the required examinations in subjects chosen at discretion of the faculty. Applications for admission to the second year of the preparatory course will also be accepted in 1983.

Each year of the course includes a required core subject, "Contemporary Planning Issues", which is a regular forum for discussion and critical assessment of current planning practice and issues, and a specialization subject, "Urban Research Programme", which involves research work in two optional areas of study at first year and one area of ​​study in the second year, leading to a thesis.

Issues In Planning Theory

The intervention of the planner in the urban process, a discussion of the main themes of the urban planning tradition and ideology, a review of some contemporary concerns and an introduction to the problem of constructing a new planning theory to deal with new conceptions of the planning task.
