INTRODUCTION

A BRIEF HISTORY

As the Technical College of Education, the College was administered by the Technical Schools Division and the Teacher Training Branch of the Education Department of Victoria, but with the passage of the State College of Victoria Act in 1972, the College, as the State College of Victoria at Hawthorn, was governed by its own Statutory Council within the general framework laid down by the Act. The dissolution of the State College of Victoria in 1981 saw colleges constituted under the Victorian Post-Secondary Education Act take even greater responsibility for their individual management and administration.

CURRENT ACTIVITIES

However, this legal separation from the Education Department has not brought about a break in the close association between the Institute and the technical education sector, as Hawthorn continues to work closely with all aspects of technical education and adapt its intake and form of education. and retraining to meet the needs of both teachers and administrators. Overseas activities are carried out within the framework of the Institute's constitution and strengthen the relationship between the people of Australia and other nations in the region.
