SUMMARY

Eyolf’s Self-Actualization in Henrik Ibsen’s Little Eyolf; Fafan Sujarwo, 070110191028; 2013; English Department Faculty of Letters, University of Jember.

This thesis discusses about Eyolf’s self-actualization inLittle Eyolf written by Henrik Ibsen which is set in the Norway. Self-actualization is the desires for self-fulfillment namely to the tendency for him to become everything and actualized that one is capable to become a total kind of person that one wants to reach the peaks of his potential. The person’s desire for self-improvement, namely to become actualized his potential to be and fitted for. There are five hierarchies of needs which have to be fulfilled before someone goes through to accomplish self-actualization, those are physiological needs, safety needs, belongingness and love needs and the last needs are self-esteem needs. The research is to find Eyolfsuccessto complete his self-actualization inLittle Eyolf.

The inductive method is used to make the discussion of the topic brief. It means that the analysis starts from the specific concept goes to general conclusion. The data used in this thesis are collected by library research and any printed materials, such as, dictionaries, books, articles and cybernetic sites. Psychologcal approach is applied in this thesis. It is to analyze Eyolf as one of the main male character inLittle Eyolf.Eyolf is a handicapped boy who finds it hard to find self-actualization since his parents and neighborhoods do not support him to do so. By this unsupportive environment, Eyolf escapes from the reality and lives in his world of fantasy to fulfill his own need. The spirit of Eyolf to find his own redemption is closely related to the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.
