ABSTRACT
Unmanned aerial vehicle is an aircraft that can fly without ridden by humans. With this advantage, the unmanned aerial vehicle is used by civilians and military to conduct reconnaissance and surveillance missions. The problem of noise on the unmanned aerial vehicle is becoming a research concentration to support the success of the mission. Most of the noise comes from the unmanned aerial vehicle’s propeller system lifter, rotor, and engines. This study aims to conduct an experimental study of noise characteristics of unmanned aerial vehicle prototype NVC (Noise and Vibration Research Centre) USU (University of Sumatera Utara) with a rotation variation of 2000 rpm, 3000 rpm, 4000 rpm, 5000 rpm, 6000 rpm and 7000 rpm at a distance of 1 meter, 3 meters and 5 meters. Measurement of the sound level was done in the horizontal, vertical and axial directions (X +, X-, Y +, Y-, Z + and Z-). The noise simulation of unmanned aerial vehicle prototype NVC USU was done by using surfer 8.0 software. From the measurement of the sound level was known that the highest sound level was 97.7 dB with 7000 rpm on the Y- axis direction measurement (exhaust direction) at a distance of 1 meter. Exhaust is the only one of the machine parts that is not covered by the fuselage, so that the noise on the measurement axis Y- (the exhaust direction) can propagate well to the point of measurement. However, the lowest sound level was 79.3 dB with 7000 rpm on the Z+ axis direction measurement (the tail direction) at a distance of 5 meters. Because the machine on the measurement axis Z + (direction of the tail) is covered by the fuselage, some noise is muted by the fuselage before propagate up to the point of measurement.
