First of all the researcher would like to say thanks to the Almighty Allah SWT who has given us His mercy and blessing, and also His chance so that the researcher can finish this thesis as a partial fulfillment for requirement of S.Pd Degree at English Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto . ABSTRACT

BOOSTING STUDENTS’ PARTICIPATION IN LEARNING ENGLISH

THROUGH ICE-BREAKING ACTIVITY

(A Classroom Action Research in VIII G Students of SMP N 1 Purwokerto in Academic Year 2013/2014)

This research was aimed to boost students‟ participation in learning English through ice-breaking activities. It was used Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was conducted at the VIII G students of SMP N 1 Purwokerto in academic year 2013/2014 as the subject of the research. The data were collected through observation, questionnaire, documentation, and test as secondary data.
