Abstract
This study aimed to investigate classroom communication between an Indonesian teacher and American students at Children Community House in Salatiga. The purpose of the study was to identify and describe the communication strategies used by the Indonesian teacher in her conversations with the students. This study was conducted in their classroom. It used a descriptive method. The subjects of this study were an Indonesian teacher and 10 young American students of Children Community House. The data for the study were collected from several direct observations. The analysis of the data shows that five of the eight types of communication strategies proposed by Littlewood (1984) were used, such as adjusting message, using paraphrase, using non-linguistic resources, seeking help, and approximation.
