This research was aimed at knowing the effectiveness of scaffolding strategy for teaching writing to the second grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Karangpucung in academic year 2013/2014. This experimental research was done in two weeks with the total number of 59 students. It was 32 students of experimental group and 27 students of control group. Both groups were compared based on the strategy of teaching. The strategy that was used for selecting the sample was random sampling technique. In collecting the data, this research used two kinds of test: pre-test and post-test. Both classes were given pre-test and post-test. The writer conducted pre-test before giving treatment and post-test after giving treatment. This research used t-test as a tool to analyse the data. The t-test result from experimental group was higher than the value of t-table (9 > 1,673), because the level of significance was α = 0,05 and the d.f = 57. In the experimental class the five different aspects (content, organization, vocabulary, grammar and mechanic) were significant at (P < 0,05). It caused that students in the experimental class could write recount easily. It could be concluded that scaffolding strategy was effective for teaching writing of recount text to the second grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Karangpucungin academic year 2013/2014.
