The research was conducted to measure the effectiveness of teaching vocabulary by using fly swatter game. This study was conducted by using quasi experimental method. The population of the research was all of the second grade students of SMPN 2 Baturraden in academic year 2013-2014. Random sampling was used to take the sample of the research. The sample was divided into two groups; 8B as the experimental class and 8A as the control class. The experimental class was taught by using fly swatter game, but the control class was taught without using Fly swatter game. Pre-test and post-test were used to find the data. This research was conducted in April to May, starting from 28 April to 31 May 2014. Pre test was given to know the early competence of the students both in the control and experimental class. At the end, there was a post test that was given for both experimental and control class. The result of the research showed that there was a significant difference of the students’ vocabulary mastery between the students who were taught using fly swatter game and those who were taught without fly swatter game. It could be seen on the result of computation of t-test, where t-result is 3.33 while the T-table value at the level of significant 0.05 for degree of freedom (df) 62 was 1.67. It means that t-test was higher than t-table (3.33> 1.67). It could be concluded that the use of fly swatter game was effective for teaching vocabulary.
