I am so thankful that finally, I was able to accomplish my thesis which is

entitled “The Power of Love and Hatred Portrayed in Elizabeth Rudnick‟s Maleficent that hopefully this thesis could be useful and helpful for us in our life. This thesis would not be accomplished if I did not get the blessing, motivation, support, prayer, idea and love. That is why I would like to thank and express my appreciation here.

* Firstly, I would like to praise and thank God for everything that He has given and provided for me, especially in accomplishing this thesis.

* Then, knowing how much my parents love me and let me continuing my study in this university makes me feel lucky. This appreciation is deserved to Mr. Thomson and Mrs. Yulan who have given me support, prayer, motivation and always understand me. Thanks for thousand times for you both. I love you!

ABSTRAK

Skripsi yang berjudul “The Power of Love and Hatred Portrayed in Elizabeth Rudnick‟s Maleficent” ini membahas tentang pengaruh jenis kepribadian seorang

peri yang baik hati dalam bertingkah laku di dalam kehidupannya dengan menelisik kisah percintaannya dengan seorang manusia yang berakhir tragis. Kepribadiannya yang unik tersebut membuatnya memiliki cinta yang sangat kuat sehingga membuatnya yakin terhadap Stefan. Sosok yang belum pernah dikenalnya sebelumnya. Kesempatan kedua yang diberikannya kepada manusia dengan berharap manusia dan para peri bisa berdamai sirna seketika saat Stefan mengkhianatinya. Pengkhiantan yang diterimanya membuatnya sangat terkejut, seakan tidak percaya dan memberi dampak padanya. Maleficent yang sekarang bukanlah Maleficent yang kita kenal sebagai peri baik lagi. Dia telah berubah menjadi peri yang berhati gelap segelap malam yang penuh dengan kebebencian. Kekuatan kebencian yang dimiliknya dilampiaskannya dengan menaruh dendam kepada putri pertama Stefan. Kutukan berupa ciuman tulus yang luar biasa tersebut sangat berdampak pada Stefan dan sang putri. Seiring waktu berjalan, Maleficent mulai menyadari kutukan yang selama ini terletak pada sang putri membuatnya menyesal. Penyesalan tersebut membuatnya tidak berdaya. Kekuatan cinta dan kebencian Maleficent tersebut dianalisis berdasarkan jenis-jenis kepribadian milik Katharine Cook Briggs dan Isabel Briggs Myers.

ABSTRACT

The thesis entitled “The Power of Love and Hatred Portrayed in Elizabeth Rudnick‟s Maleficent discusses about the effect of personality type which is had by a

pure-hearted fairy in how she behaves in her life by looking her love story with a human boy which end tragically. Her unique personality makes her having a strong love that makes her believe Stefan. A person whom she never met before. The second chance has been given by her to the human boy with a hope of a peace between human and faeries has gone when Stefan betrayed her. The betrayal which is received by her makes her shocked, seems unbelievable and gives an affect to her. She has been changed to the fairy who has dark-hearted heart as dark as night which full of hatred. The power of hatred which is had by her has reflected by placing a revenge on the first daughter of Stefan. A curse of True Love kiss which is wonderful gives an affect to Stefan and princess. As the day has gone, Maleficent begins to realize the curse which is in princess makes her regret. The regret makes her powerless. The power of love and hatred is analyzed based on the types of personality of Katharine Cook Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers.
