Bahasa Inggris adalah mata pelajaran wajib yang diajarkan di SMA 1 Kudus. Berdasarkan silabus dan RPP yang digunakan, salah satu aspek pengajaran bahasa Inggris adalah kosa kata. Kosakata berguna terutama untuk memahami teks bahasa Inggris, bahkan yang sederhana sekalipun. Untuk pembelajaran kosakata, guru dapat menggunakan berbagai media. Di sini, guru menggunakan lagu sebagai media. Guru menggunakan lagu populer di kalangan remaja. Materi dalam pembelajaran ini adalah “makna melalui musik”. Judul lagu yang digunakan adalah “heal the world”.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi siswa kelas 12 SMA 1 Kudus terhadap media lagu “heal the world” dalam pembelajaran kosakata bahasa Inggris.

Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian kualitatif dengan instrumen diri peneliti itu sendiri dengan dua cara untuk memperoleh data berupa angket yang diberikan kepada 70 siswa dan wawancara kepada 6 siswa untuk memperoleh informasi yang mendalam.

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa persepsi siswa kelas 12 SMA 1 Kudus terhadap lagu “heal the world” sebagai media dalam pembelajaran kosakata bahasa Inggris adalah positif. Hal ini dapat digambarkan dengan hasil siswa yang dominan “setuju” saat mereka mengisi angket. Dengan menggunakan lagu “heal the world” yang familiar dapat membuat siswa mudah memahami kosakata dan juga siswa lebih mengetahui arti dari lirik lagu “heal the world”.

Oleh karena itu, dengan mempelajari kosakata melalui lagu membantu siswa untuk memahami makna lagu. Guru juga dapat menggunakan lagu populer lainnya sebagai media dalam pembelajaran kosa kata bahasa Inggris, sehingga pembalajaran lebih nyaman untuk siswa.

Karena itu, peneliti berharap penelitian ini dapat digunakan oleh guru bahasa Inggris sebagai salah satu referensi dalam pembelajaran kosa kata menggunakan media lagu.

English is compulsory subject that is taught in SMA 1 Kudus. Based on the syllabus and lesson plan used, one aspect of English being taught is vocabulary. Vocabulary is useful especially for understanding the English text, even the simple one. For vocabulary learning, teachers could use various media.

Here, teachers used song as media. Teachers use popular songs among teenagers.

The material in this learning is “meaning through music”. The song title used is

“heal the world”.

This research is aimed to know the perception of the 12th graders of SMA 1 Kudus toward “heal the world” song as media in learning English vocabulary.

This reseach used qualitative reseach design with the instruments was the researcher self with 2 ways to get the data were questionnaire that given to 70 students and interview to 5 tudents to gain deep information.

The result showed that the perception of 12th graders of SMA 1 Kudus toward “heal the world” song as media in learning English vocabulary is positive.

It can be drawn with the students result through the dominant agreement while they fulfill the questionnaire. By using “heal the world” song that familiar can make students easy to understand the vocabularies and also students well known the meaning of the “heal the world” song lyrics. Therefore, by learning vocabulary through song help students to understand the meaning of the song.

Therefore, the researcher hopes this research can be used by the English teacher as one of references in learning vocabulary using song.
