ABSTRACT
HENNY FITRIANI SIMANJUNTAK: The Effect of Food Types to Rotifers Population (Brachionus sp), supervised by DARMA BAKTI and NURMATIAS.
The main step was determining the success of fish farming is the Hatchery. The effort requires maintaining water and foods quality. Natural foods containing high protein, digestible, slow move and small sized can be found in Rotifers. However, it has slow development because of complication of cultivation reasons.
This research was carried out between July and September 2013 in the Farming Laboratory of Aquatic Resources Management Study Program of Agriculture Faculty, North Sumatra University, this research used Non Factorial Complete Randomize Design with four treatments, they were treatment A: consists of 2 ml phytoplankton, treatment B: consisted of 2 grams of tofu waste, treatment C: consisted of 0.06 gram bread yeast and treatment D: consisted of 2 ml of Vitamin B-Complex with three repetitions in five times of observation.
The result showed that there were different population of Rotifers (Branchionus sp) to each treatment. The highest population could be found in the tofu waste foods with population value 201 Rotifers per observation. The lowest population was phytoplankton with 19 Rotifers per observation. The population peak of the food reached in the eighth day. It revealed that Rotifers (Branchionus sp) with high value could be produced with tofu waste food and the optimum time was in the eighth day after the spread.
