PREFACE

First I would like to give a big thank to the only God, Allah SWT who

has been giving His blessing and mercy to me, I would also like to thank to all

people who support and encourage me in writing and completing my final project

report entitled “English Teaching and Learning Activities for the Fifth Grade in

SDN Tumenggungan 28 Surakarta.”

This final project report is submitted to fullfil one of the requirement to

gain the diploma degree of English Diploma Program in Sebelas Maret

University. It describes the teaching and learning activities in mastering four

English skills for the young learners. The activities are held in SDN

Tumenggungan 28 Surakarta for almost two months. The problems do not only

come from the writer as the teacher but also from the students. Thus, the writer

also provides the solutions of the problems from the students and from the teacher

during job training activities.

The writer hopes her final project report can be a useful references for the

readers and gives them more knowledge about the difficulties in teaching young

learner.

everyone else. You can not go through life worried about what everyone else is

going to think. Whether it is your hair, clothes, what you have to say, how you

feel, what you believe and what you have. You can not let the judgement of others

stop you from being you, because if you do, you’re no longer you, you’re

someone everyone else wants to be...

ABSTRACT

Putriana Nur Adiani, 2013. English Teaching and Learning Activities for the fifth grade in SDN Tumenggungan 28 Surakarta. English Diploma Program, Faculty of Letter and Fine Arts, Sebelas Maret University.

This final project report is written based on the job training activities done from February until April, 2013. The objectives of this final project report are to describe the activities in English teaching and learning for the fifth grade, to identify the difficulties or problems in English teaching and learning and to find out the solutions to solve the problems.

There are some steps in the activity of English teaching and learning, namely : warming up, explanation, practice and assesment. During the job training activities the writer faced some problems, such as the problems of the students in lacking of self confidence, pronouncing and writing English words. The other problems came from the writer are handling the students, lacking of time and additional materials. However, there are some solutions to solve the problems by giving a positive punishment, repeating the correct pronounciation, motivating the students, and understanding the characteristics of the student.
