ABSTRACT
The objectives of this study are: Firstly, to produce natural dyes instant powder from
soursop leaves as revealed by various boiling time and the addition of maltodextrin or without
maltodextrin addition.
Secondly
, to determine the depth of shade of soursop leaves natural dye
powder as revealed by different fixatives. Data were analyzed by Randomized Completely Block
Design (RCBD), 5 treatments and 5 replications. As the treatments are boiling time: 30, 45, 60,
75, and 90 minutes, respectively, while as the block is the time analysis. Data of natural dye
powder with the maltodextrin additions were analyzed using 3x3 Factorial design with 3
replications. As the first factor is the boiling time consisted of three levels: 30, 60, and 90 minutes,
respectively. Meanwhile, as the second factor is the maltodextrin additions which consisted of three
concentrations: 10, 15, and 20%, respectively. The results of the study showed that the extraction
of soursop leaf natural dyes powder yield without maltodextrin addition is 10.69 ± 1.77 grams
with 60 minutes boiling time. While the addition of 20% maltodextrin produce natural dyes powder
95.88 ± 2.67 grams with 60 minutes boiling time. The use of “tunjung” as fixative on cotton
produces the darkest color for all hues, while “kapur” and “alum” produce, more brighter color
than tunjung.
