Once upon a time, there was a fisherman who had a habit of not telling the truth. One day, he went fishing as usual. He sat a long time by the river but did not manage to catch anything.

Just when he had decided to give up and go home, he caught a kaloi fish. He was delighted until he heard the fish spoke in a forlorn voice. “Oh, please, Mr. Fisherman, please let me go,” it pleaded. The fish continued, “I could make you very rich if you would release me. However there is a condition; you must stop telling lies.” The fisherman thought for a while. He gave his word that he would not tell lies again and then threw the fish into the river.

When he reached home, he was surprised to find a basket full of gold by the door. The fisherman became rich and he opened a cloth shop in town. One day, a mysterious man passed by his shop and spoke in a forlorn, familiar voice. “Don’t you remember me anymore?” he asked. “No, who are you?” replied the fisherman. The truth was the fisherman had recognised him but he did not want to have anything to do with him. The man left.

Evening came and the fisherman went home. He was shocked to find the basket of gold went missing. Suddenly, he remembered his promise. He hurried to the river and called out the fish. The fish appeared and said, “Fisherman, you did not keep your word. This is the consequence and you have to face it.”
