Knowledge management is one of the hottest research topics in academia and busi- ness sectors. However, scholars did not pay enough attention to explore the impact of IT and AI on knowledge management at modern organizations. In this study, a systematic review was conducted to give a comprehensive analysis of the shortlisted

research articles and to debate the implications of analysis findings. This review study came up with five main outcomes. First, IT tools and systems such as data warehousing, brainstorming applications, decision support systems, document man- agement systems and information retrieval engines are used to enhance knowledge management practices by easing access to information, creating, organizing and dis- seminating relevant knowledge and information within the organization, to enhance organizational performance. Second, there are several AI techniques such as Fuzzy Logic, Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Genetic Algorithm (GA), Knowledge-Based Systems (KBS), etc. that are successfully imple- mented in a variety of business domains. ANN was found to be the most frequently used AI technique, followed by SVM and GA, KBS and fuzzy logic respectively.
With respect to business domains, AI was found to be widely applied at health care organizations followed by other sectors such as construction, finance, energy, man- ufacturing, telecommunications, etc. Third, most of the analysed studies were con- ducted in Taiwan, followed by Spain and Malaysia, respectively, among the other countries. Fourth, regarding the publishing year, knowledge management studies related to AI have witnessed a noticeable gradual increase in the recent three years from 2016 to 2019. Fifth, ScienceDirect is the most valuable database as it contains the majority of knowledge management related studies especially those relevant to IT and AI, followed by IEEE, Taylor & Francis, Springer, Wiley and Emerald respec- tively among the other databases. In conclusion, the outcomes of this systematic review provide a profound insight in the role of IT and AI in shaping the future trend of knowledge management. These outcomes also form a comprehensive reference for the upcoming knowledge management studies’ especially those related to IT and AI.
As a limitation, this review is relied on certain repositories for gathering the research articles that are Emerald, IEEE Xplore, Springer, Taylor & Francis, Wiley and ScienceDirect. Hence, these repositories may not provide all the valuable pub- lished researches on the impact of IT and AI on knowledge management at modern organizations. This study can be extended to cover more articles from other repos- itories such as Scopus, Sage, and Google Scholar, along with others, to add more value and dimensions to the research outcomes.
