5. EXPORT IMPORT
In 2021, the export value of livestock was US$1,306.5 million (Table 5.1) or increased by 5,29 percent compared to the 2020 export value which was US$1,240.8 million. Such increase derived from the export of veterinary drugs increased by US$36.5 million (26,80 percent) of exports in 2020. Another kind of export that increased was the export of non-food animal products increased by US$35.6 million (26.41 percent) of exports in 2020, livestock seeds increased by US$0,36 million (5.82 percent) of exports in 2020, and the export of livestock products increased by US$11.7 million (1.33 percent) of export in 2020.
In terms of volume, the livestock export in 2021 was 554.9 thousand tons or increased by 5.25 percent from the export volume in 2020 which was 527.2 thousand tons. The increase was caused by the increase in almost all groups of commodities, namely the export of livestock seeds by 2.6 thousand tons (15.15 percent), non-food animal products by 14.9 thousand tons (12.82 percent), veterinary drugs by 12.0 thousand tons (8.23 percent), livestock product by 5.5 thousand tons (2.56 percent).
In 2021 the value of livestock product imports was US$4,713.2 million (Table 5.2) or increased by 28.43 percent compared to the 2020 import value amounting to US$3,670.0 million. That increase was due to increased imports in all groups namely import of livestock seeds by US$2.8 million (42.55 percent), non-food animal products by US$331.3 million (37.51 percent), livestock products by US$572.4 million (27.50 percent), livestock by US$101.0 million (21.45 percent) and veterinary drugs by US$35.7 million (15.71 percent).
In terms of volume, the livestock import in 2021 was 2.0 million tons or increased by 7.53 percent compared to the import volume in 2020 which was 1.9 million tons. That increase was sustained by almost all import groups, with an increase by the import of livestock seeds by 2.2 thousand ton (36.73 percent), livestock products by 118.7 thousand ton (15.89 percent), veterinary drugs by 3.6 thousand ton (4.08 percent) and non-food animal products by 24.6 thousand ton (2.82 percent).
The balance sheet of livestock exports and imports in 2020-2021 (Table 5.3) was still in deficit (import value is greater than export value). The import-export livestock deficit in the period 2020- 2021 has increased by 40.24 percent from a deficit amounting to US$2,429.2 million in 2020 to a deficit amounting to US$3,406.7 million in 2021. If in 2020 the export-to-import value ratio was 1:3.0, then in 2021 its ratio increased to 1:3.6.
TECHNICAL EXPLANATION
1. The export-import data were obtained from the processing of export-import data issued by Statistics Indonesia (BPS).
2. Export-Import Data for Livestock and Animal Health Sector Commodities based on Technical Guidelines for HS (Harmonized System) Agricultural Code Coverage in 2022 consisting of 339 HS Codes.
3. The export-import data are grouped into several types of commodities/livestock, so that a grouping of similar Harmonized System (HS) is required.
