dengan baik guna memperlancar pelaksanaan operasi dan mempertahankan kelestariannya melalui kegiatan perawatan, perbaikan, pencegahan dan pengamanan yang harus dilakukan secara terus menerus. Pemeliharaan sistem polder mencakup semua kegiatan teknis yang diperlukan untuk menjaga fungsi polder dalam kondisi baik, misalnya inspeksi, perbaikan dan pembersihan wilayah kerja. Pada dasarnya ada dua jenis / strategi pemeliharaan yaitu pemeliharaan preventif dan pemeliharaan korektif.
Pemeliharaan preventif dapat dibagi dalam pemeliharaan berbasis kondisi (Condition Based Maintenance-Con BM) dan pemeliharaan berbasis preventif (Preventif based Maintenance - PBM)
Strategi pemeliharaan yang sama berlaku untuk hampir semua sub-komponen yang berbeda. Kondisi sistem saluran dan struktur yang terukur, tetapi tidak cukup dapat untuk diprediksi.
Biaya pemeriksaan dianggap rendah dibandingkan dengan konsekuensi dari kegagalan. Oleh karena itu strategi Condition Based Maintenance dianggap sesuai untuk sub-komponen.
Pemeriksaan akan dilakukan secara berkala. Pemeliharaan akan dieksekusi ketika hasil pemeriksaan menunjukkan bahwa batas tertentu terlampaui (ambang batas perawatan).
