The purpose of this research was to implement the KWL strategy and analyze its impact on the reading comprehension of texts among students in the eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Sukadana. This means that the KWL strategy can affect the reading comprehension ability of students in the eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Sukadana. So, based on the data of the preliminary survey in the eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Sukadana, the researcher found that the students still have many problems in teaching reading.

The Effect of Using the Know, Want to Know and Learn (KWL) Strategy on Student's Reading Comprehension in Eleventh Grade SMA N 1 Sukadana East Lampung”. Is there any positive and significant influence of using know, want to know and learn (KWL) strategy on students' reading comprehension ability in eleventh grade SMA N 1 Sukadana East Lampung. To know if there is a positive and significant impact of using the KWL strategy on the student's reading comprehension ability.

Peregoy and Boyle explains that “The K-W-L strategy is an instructional reading strategy that is based on moving from one stage to another. The researcher administered the pre-test at the first meeting to measure the student's reading comprehension score. The pre-test used in this research was in the form of a descriptive text task. The pre-test result can be identified as follows.

  • The Concept of KWL Strategy

Lee et.all, they have noted that reading comprehension is a result of dynamic interactions between knowledge, strategies, goals, and dispositions.10. Janette K.Klinger defined that reading comprehension is a multicomponent, highly complex process that involves many interactions between readers and what they bring to the text (previous knowledge, strategy use) as well as variables related to the text itself (interest in text comprehension of text types).12 . 12 Jannete K. Klinger, Sharon Vaughn and Alison Boarman, Teaching Reading Comprehension to Students' with Learning Difficulties, (New York: the Guiltford, 2007), p.8.

This means that the reading comprehension process comes through top-down processes, such as prediction and activation of prior knowledge, and bottom-up processing, such as summarization. In addition, Douglas Brown explains that reading comprehension is primarily a matter of developing appropriate, effective comprehension. In addition, students in reading activities must have good reading comprehension in order to obtain information from the reading text.

Based on the above quote, it can be deduced that reading comprehension are the activities that require the reader to read closely in order to comprehend the total meaning of a reading selection. In reading comprehension, the students are trained to extract the information from the text so that the students understand what they are reading. To know if reading comprehension needs to be achieved, use the reading assessment.

22 Jannete K. Klinger, Sharon Vaughn and Alison Boarman, Teaching Reading Comprehension to Students' with Learning Difficulties, p.15. From the above explanation, it can be concluded that the KWL strategy is a teaching strategy that helps students develop tactical ways to learn new material of their reading comprehension skill by using questions and getting information from sources. reliable.

Theoretical Framework and Paradigm

  • Theoretical Framework

According to the theoretical framework, it consists of all the theories that explain the relationship between fertility and mortality. Research that concerns two or more variables is usually formulated with a hypothesis either in the form of comparison or association. Therefore, when arranging the comparison or relationship of research hypotheses, the theoretical framework must be explained.

A theoretical framework guides your research, determines what things you will measure, and what statistical relationships you will look for. If the implementation of KWL strategy is very appropriate, the student's reading comprehension ability will be good. But if the implementation of KWL strategy is inappropriate, the student's reading comprehension ability will be poor.

To investigate whether there is a significant influence of the use of the KWL strategy on the reading comprehension of the students in the eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Sukadana, the researcher analyzes the data using a t-test. Second, to investigate whether there is a significant influence of the use of the KWL strategy on the reading comprehension of the students in the eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Sukadana, the researcher used the Chi-Square formula. Student's reading comprehension Result of pre-test in grade 11 of SMA N 1 Sukadana No name of student Pre-test (X1).

The student's reading comprehension result of post-test at the eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Sukadana. It was beneficial to know the influence of the use of KWL strategy on the students' reading comprehension ability from the results of those tests. To determine whether there is a positive and significant influence of the use of KWL strategy on the students' reading comprehension ability in eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Sukadana.

The pre-test and post-test result of the students' reading comprehension in the eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Sukadana. The conclusion was that the use of the KWL strategy can influence the reading comprehension of students in the eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Sukadana. There was a positive and significant influence of using the KWL strategy that can influence the reading ability of students in the eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Sukadana.

There was a significant impact of the use of the KWL strategy on the reading comprehension of the students in the eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Sukadana. There is a positive and significant impact of the use of the Know, Want to Know and Learn (KWL) strategy on the reading comprehension of the students in the eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Sukadana East Lampung.”

RESULT OF THE RESEARCH

Description of the data

  • Research setting
  • Research data

1 Sukadana, its construction in 1983, which at that time was in the region of Central Lampung regency government. Implementation of effective learning and guidance so that all students can develop optimally in line with their potential. From the above table, it appears that the state of teachers and the official employers at SMAN1 Sukadana, which consists of 3 teachers at level S2, 41 teachers at level S1.

Based on the above table, the researcher then measured the class interval using the following formulation. After recognizing the class of the interval, the data obtained from the above interval were placed in the frequency distribution table, as follows. Based on the frequency distribution table above, it can be concluded that out of 26 students as a research sample, there was one.

In addition, the graph below illustrates the frequency distribution of students' reading comprehension score in the pre-test. The post test was used in the last program of this research after giving the students some treatments and exercises. The test used in the current research was the same type as the pre-test, but with a different title and was more developed.

Hypothesis testing

So know the critical value of Chi-square, the researcher first counted df, it was degree of freedom. This means that alternative hyphothesis (Ha), which explains "there is a positive and significant influence of using KWL strategy on students' reading comprehension ability, was accepted and Ho was rejected." First, the researcher prepared the table and inserted the data into the formula t-test as below to get “t_observation”.

According to the table data above, the researcher found the formulation of the hypothesis test to find the mean score between pre-test and post-test, the formulation as follows. Therefore, t_observation is 8.83 as the result of the score using the t-test formula above. To know the critical value of t-test (t_table). The researcher formulated the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) as: “there is a positive and significant influence of the use of KWL strategy can affect students' reading comprehension ability in eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Sukadana.

In this study, there are two variables: independent variable is KWL strategy (X), dependent variable is reading comprehension (Y). The variables were tested using the chi-square formula and t-test to examine whether there is a positive and significant impact of using the KWL strategy on the reading comprehension of the students in the eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Sukadana. This research result was conducted in SMA N 1 Sukadana in the eleventh grade on the influence of using KWL strategy on students' reading comprehension.

After the implementation of quantitative research in the eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Sukadana and according to the pre-test and post-test result, it could be concluded that there was a positive and significant impact before and after the implementation of the KWL strategy in teaching descriptive text . As a result of student learning, students' vocabulary will automatically increase using the KWL strategy. The result of this research as a consideration in the learning process at school and the director can convey to the teachers that they should know the problem of the students to effectively achieve the learning process.
