Problem Formulation

  • Benefits of Study
  • Kinds of Writing
  • Report Writing
  • Teaching Writing
  • The Principle of Roundtable Technique
  • The Teaching Procedure of Roundtable Technique
  • The Advantages and Disadvantages of Roundtable Technique

This means that the text of the report talks about the subject in general, for example: "Cat", which applies to all cats in the world. Teaching can be defined as “the action of a person who teaches; the profession of a teacher", "teaching is imparting knowledge or skills".28 In addition, teaching is an activity for directing and facilitating learning, which enables the student to learn, also for determining the conditions for learning.29 Teaching therefore refers to the professional skill of the teacher students in a classroom whose primary purpose is for students to be successful in learning materials.

The Teaching Procedure of Report Writing Skill Through Roundtable Technique

This means that the teacher cannot use a complex (problem or team project) that the students have to solve. 2) It takes some time to use this technique during the lesson. The teacher gives each group a different topic and provides time for reflection before starting to use the round table technique. When the teacher says "move!", the student must pass the paper to the other member on the left.

When the whole group has completed their project, the teacher writes all the names of groups on the whiteboard and asks students to correct each other's project. The teacher guides students to correct all the projects and writes on the whiteboard how many mistakes there are for each group. Then the teacher evaluates and explains more about repot text related to students' writing error.

Theoretical Framework and Paradigm 1. Theoretical Framework

In this research, the researcher uses the Round Table technique to learn the report text that focuses on the eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Trimurjo Central Lampung. The researcher assumes that if the teacher uses the Round Table technique in teaching writing about the report text, the students will be easier to brainstorm ideas and they can fully participate in the class through group work. If the round table technique is effective in teaching report writing skill, it will give a good impact on the student's report writing skill.

However, if the roundtable technique is ineffective for teaching the skill of report writing, then it will not affect the student's report writing skill. Based on the figure above, it can be seen that if the round table technique is high and the student's report writing ability is high, there is a positive and significant influence of using the round table technique on the student's report writing skill. Conversely, if the round table technique is low and the student's report writing skill is low, there is no positive and significant effect of using the round table technique on students.

Hypothesis

  • Hypothesis Formulation
  • Statistical Hypothesis

A hypothesis can be stated in the null form, which is a claim that there is no relationship or no difference between or between the variables. This kind of null hypothesis is a statistical hypothesis that can be tested within the framework of probability theory. It is also a non-directional form of hypothesis”.53 This hypothesis is considered an assumption about a population parameter.

If t observed > table and χ2observed > χ2table, then Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. If t observed < table and χ2 observed < χ2table, then Ha is rejected and Ho is accepted.

Research Design

It is the group of interest that should be generalized by the researcher in the result of the study.4 It means that the population is all the members of the group, such as people, objects or events that are determined in a research. In this research, the population is all eleventh graders of SMA N 1 Trimurjo Central Lampung. A sample is a small group that is observed or a part of a population.5 A sample is any part of a population of individuals about whom information is obtained.

It can be concluded that the sample is the small group of elements or individual part of the population that is observed. Regarding the discussion of the sample, the sample of this research is the students of the seventh grades which consist of seven parallels. Sampling refers to the process of selecting individuals to participate in a research study.7 In this research, the researcher used a purposive group sampling technique as a sampling technique which is based on previous knowledge of a population and the specific purpose of the research.

Operational Definition of Variables

The researcher tested the students by asking them to write a report text on a certain topic. It was applied to eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 Trimurjo Central Lampung. Students are able to express and explore their background knowledge and ideas through written language.

The researcher used a written test as a data collection method to measure students' report writing ability. A pre-test was administered in the first meeting before the treatment to know the students' ability before action research. 12 The researcher used this method to obtain information about the history of the school, the situation of teachers and officials, the number of students and the organizational structures of SMA N 1 Trimurjo Central Lampung.

Research Instrument

In addition, the researcher used a pretest and posttest instrument for the experimental and control classes. To determine the student's writing skill, the researcher measured the student's writing skill by asking them to prepare a report text. Based on the above criteria, the researcher used assessment indicators integrated with standard scores to test their validity and ability to measure students' writing skills.

13-10 Right Poor in right; not fluent, jumbled ideas, lacks logical order, overall structure not clear. 17-14 Good Average to good: adequate range, occasional errors of word/idiom, form, choice, usage, but meaning not obscured. 13-10 Fair Fair Fair: limited range, frequent errors of word/idiom, form, choice, usage, confused meaning, or.

Data Analysis Technique

Second, to investigate whether there is any significant influence of the use of Roundtable technique on the students' report writing skill at the eleventh grade of of SMA N 1 Trimurjo Central Lampung, the researcher the researcher used Chi-Square formula. According to Donal Ary, when dealing with nominal data, the Chi-Square tests are the most commonly used tests of significance. They compare observed frequencies and expected frequencies.15 It is used to investigate the significant differences between observed frequencies and expected frequencies in this research, the researcher uses Chi-Square formula.

Hypothesis Testing

Based on the frequency distribution table above, it can be concluded that there were students who passed 75 as minimum mastery criteria (MMC) or senior category. Therefore, it can be concluded that the students' ability to write reports in the post test was increased or good. Prepare the table to investigate the differences between the experimental class and the control class.

Limitations

Thus, the statement by Kagan that the Roundtable is a cooperative learning technique that can be used repeatedly in many subject areas, in a number of different places in the lesson plan, is pleasing. Brainstorming character, which is brought by this technique is able to solve the problem of students' difficulties in developing ideas. Students may find it easier to generate their ideas in their writing because they get the ideas from their friends' ideas.

Meanwhile, cooperative learning group character brought by this technique is able to solve the problem of students' motivation in writing. In the first activity of the treatment, the researcher had no problems coping with the class. However, in the final activity of the treatment, the researcher found it difficult to manage the class because the students have lost their concentration or their focus.

Conclusion

Suggestion

The school is recommended to make the further study in applying the Roundtable technique done by the teacher in writing learning reports. Integration of Roundtable Brainstorming into Team Pair Solo Technique for improving student participation in narrative writing.
