NEW APPOINTMENT
Dr. Ralph W. Phillips was recently appointed to a five-member advisory committee to the Surgeon General in the U.
s.
Veteran's Administration.Professor Phillips was also elected President-Elect of the IADR in Miami and will be in charge of the 1967 Program to be held in Washington,D.C.

CORRECTIONS
Apologies are in order for Dr.
Roland Dykema, whose name was omitted in the March 28th issue, as one of the persons who passed the written examinations of the .American Board of Prosthodontics.
Also in that issue, we listed Mrs. Nellie Ward as being the
recipient of a five-year service pin.
She actually received a 15-year service pin.

WEDDINGS
Miss Marilyn Buck, Pedodontics Department, bacame the bride of David Bradley on April 23, 1966.
Miss Carolyn Shrum, also of our Pedodontics Department, became Mrs.
Dahl Tibbetts on the 9th of April.
Dr. B. Charles Kerkhove, Jr., Instructor in Pedodontics, and Judy Himsel were married on Saturday,
April 23rd.

ORAL SURGEONS
?he 16th Annual Meeting of the Great Lakes Society of Oral surgeons was held April 17-20 and Dr. Charles Redish is the newly-elected President.
Dr. Harry Kerr was Program Chairman and Dr. Estell Morris was Chairman of Local Arrange- ments.
Drs. Bigelow, Childes and Leyda were elected to member- ship and introduced to the Society. The meeting next year will be in Columbus, Ohio.
Dr. Redish was assisted in the general management of the meeting by Dr. and :Mrs. Kiley, Chairmen of Hospitality, and Dr. and Mrs. Ping, as Chairmen of Registration.

ORAL PATHOLOGY NEWS
Drs. Shafer, Standish, Miller, Whitten, Krolls, Silagi, Howell
and Ortiz attended the Annual Meeting and Seminar of the
American Academy of Oral Path- ology in Chicago, March 16-19.
Congratulations are in order for Drs. Whitten and Krolls, who were elevated to Fellowship
in the Organization.
Dr. David Gardner (former graduate student, now on the Faculty of Dentistry, University of British Columbia) was a
recent visitor.

DR. JOHNSTON TO WASHINGTON,D.C.
Dr. J. F. Johnston, Crown and Bridge Department, will go to Washington,
n.c.
the week of April 25th and then will visit the University of Maryland,
the Medical College of Virginia, Georgetown University and Howard University, where he will speak to
the Junior and Senior Classes. On Friday night, he will speak to the
Prosthetic Study Club of the District of Columbia.

REFRESHER COURSE IN CERAMICS April 18-22, Dr. George Mumford gave a refresher course in ceramics with participants from Chicago, St.
Louis, Louisville, Cincinnati, Ovid, Michigan and Indianapolis. From comments overheard, the course was quite a success.

BURSTONE PRESENTS SHORT COURSE AT UNIVERSITY OF PIITSBURGH
April 4-5, Dr. Burstone, Orthodontics presented a two-day short course,
one of a series presented by the Department of Postgraduate Education at the University of Pittsburgh.

CONGRATULATIONS
Once again, babies are the main news event in the Orthodontics
Department. Vincent Edward Perkowski was born March 9th to Dr. and Mrs.
Tom Perkowski (their seventh) and Dr. and Mrs. James Bordelon welcomed a daughter, Mary Suzanne, born
March 31st.

AAE ANNUAL MEETING
At the annual meeting of the American Association of Endo- dontists held in San Francisco April 14-17, Dr. Samuels.
Patterson was elected Vice- President of the Association.
Dr. Harry J. Healy, as a Member of the Board of Endodontics, participated in the three-day examination of candidates who were seeking certification as diplomates of that Board. Drs.
David F. Mitchell and William G.
Shafer presented papers during the scientific sessions of the meeting.

KITTY HAWK
The following message was
received from Dr. Kenneth Kaneshiro former graduate student in Perio- dontics, who is presently serving aboard the
u.s.s.
Kitty Hawk:•~e are now operating along the coast of Vietnam and have been away from home for over six months. Presently, I am the Senior Dental Officer and have
three dentists and ten dental technicians on my staff and we are responsible for the dental health of approximately 5,000 personnel aboard this ship.
I wish to thank the dental faculty of Indiana University for a wonderful education."

OD/OM NEWS
Dr. Mitchell attended the
meeting of the American Association of Endodontics in San Francisco on April 16th, where he presented a lecture on, "Recent Studies of Pulp Therapy and Conservation."
On his return trip to Indiana, Dr.
Mitchell was able to visit briefly with his son, David, Jr., who is
stationed at McClellan AFB, and with his Mother, Mrs. L. D. Mitchell
in Arkansas City, Kansas.
Dr. Mitchell and Graduate Students Drs. Binnie, Prescott and Gier,
attended the American Academy of Oral Pathology in Chicago April 13 - 16.

STUDENT TABLE CLINICS PRESENTED Student Table Clinics were con- ducted on Friday, April 22, 1966 and the comments heard since have all been flattering and the student participants are to be congratulated.
The following Senior Clinics were presented Friday morning:

We appreciate these presentations
by the students and hope the faculty and staff will encourage them to continue this practice beyond their school career.
The table clinic selected from the afternoon session to represent IUSD at the ADA Meeting in Dallas next November was presented by Mr. J. A. Durward. The winning Senior Clinician will be announced on Honors Day.

SOPHOMORE BASKETBALL TEAM WINS TROPHY
The Sophomore Intramural
Basketball team, which was runner- up for the championship last year, was successful in bringing home
the First Place Trophy this year.
The Members of the Championship Team are: George Schad, Richard Rudical, Phil Pate, Chuck Poland, Gordon Cruickshank, Jeff Allen, Tom Steinmetz, Bob Ketcham and Chuck Soderquist, Manager.
This is the first time, since 1960-61 that the Dental School has held this Trophy. In those years, the Class of 1963 succeeded in being victorious.
Mr. Scott is presently preparing some illustrative material to
accompany the Trophy when it is displayed in one of the first-floor cabinets.
Good work fellows - we look forward to retaining the Trophy for several years.

Mr. Frank Everman, a life-long resident of Bloomington, Indiana and Father of Mrs. Cleona Harvey passed away Sunday, April 24, 1966.
